John Hughes, sadly, has passed away today at the age of 59.

Leave a webcam or comment below and tell us about how this incredibly influential director shaped your life--whether it was about love or even if it was silly as taking of a parade.

    • I learned that music plays a huge role in a successful movie moment. I think I noticed it most in She's Having a Baby, one of my favourites of his, and one that I think is underrated in general. To this day, I can't hear Kate Bush's This Woman's Work without choking up.

That movie also taught me that being an adult is hard, marriage is work, and there will always be people who don't want you to succeed in your dreams, if only to make themselves feel better about their own failures.

Also, that a dance number with lawn mowers is one of the silliest and happiest things to watch.

    • I learned that if you dance and yell hard enough, you can break glass. Everytime I see that shot in The Breakfat Club, I wonder if he was serious leaving that in, or if he was all like, "F it. I'm John Hughes, damn it. Print that"
But that is only one of the montage of memorable reels that will be forever stuck in my mind when I think about John Hughes' movies...
That boat of a car Uncle Buck drove that backfired - much like our family car growing up. -
Kelly LeBrock.. Pfftt.. I guess I also learned I was straight at a young age as well.
There are many lessons learned and unversal truths inside of John Hughes' films that still hold true today. Even after all the fizzed out Aqua-Net bangs of the age have fallen fifteen feet to short, stright china-doll hipster bangs of today - We can still turn to Hughes' films to learn and to also be reminded of important values such as friendship, love, living for today and respect and understanding of others - All set to the sounds of fresh faced teens and bitchin' soundtracks.

    • John Hughes taught me nerds can be hot ... I always had a crush on Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and whoever Anthony Michael Hall was playing

    • I cant believe ferris bueller had a day off 23 years ago ,the film still holds up and i am sure teenagers today would still enjoy it as i did as a teenager in the 80's ! John Hughes was a master filmaker who got into the mind of a teenager in the 80's and put it onto screen. He understood that being a teenager had it's own problems and struck a cord with his audience. He lives on in his films !

    • John Hughes' movies helped me survive my angsty teenage years.

The Breakfast Club had a profound affect on me as a teenager, it taught me that everyone has problems, and that pot is the great equalizer ;)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off taught me that life moves pretty fast, and if you don't stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it :)

Last weekend I saw Pretty In Pink for the first time all the way through and it taught me that even after all these years, John Hughes can still entertain me.

And last but certainly not least, John Hughes introduced me to so many great 80's songs (and lots of bad ones too).

This scene of Ducky lip synching to Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness" tickled me so much, I must share it.

(I don't know how to successfully embed a youtube video on here, can anybody help me with this?)

    • He taught me about comedy. Everything I learned I got from Vacation, Weird Science, Sixteen Candles, Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors etc. He was ridiculously talented in his ability to write, produce and direct. He'll be sorely missed but he leaves a legacy of greatness behind him. Thanks again John Hughes.

    • First RIP John Hughes... I learned that women can put lipstick on without hands, if you go to Saturday detention you can try out for a scholarship with one boot and one sneaker. And last but not least you can throw a highschool party in Illinois and invite people from bars, buy liquor for minors, and smoke ganja in Peace. Honarable mention " Blue Kitchen"
