Disney is currently working on “a complicated rights deal” that would clear 16 Beatles tunes for use in the film. The Back to the Future director actually started out with a homage to the Beatles "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" so it will be very interesting to see what he produces at this stage of his career.
2009 certainly seems to be the year of the re-make.

The artist that did the first Yellow Submarine show also did work on Monty Python, I would just hope they bring all the elements of the original & if they do that it could be one of the few Disney productions that's NOT a G rated film! If they go for a G rating ,that will just make things almost too weird to watch!

When Robert Zemeckis turned to CGI, so did his soul.

I usually don't gripe about remakes but Yellow Submarine is one of the greatest animated movies ever. Robert Zemeckis is an overrated hack who shouldn't be go anywhere near it.

Apparently it is going to be a 3D version this time, probably just as pyschedelic though and most likely it is because of MJ passing since they have been trying to get the rights to the songs.

"According to Daily Variety, the studio has been trying to nab the rights for 16 original Beatles songs to be used in the movie to be helmed by Zemeckis. The director will use the new performance-capture 3-D digital technology that he has perfected in A Christmas Carol for this new venture.
If all goes as planned, the remake will premiere around the 2012 Summer Olympics, which begins July 27 in London. Zemeckis’ ImageMovers will produce the animated extravaganza. "

i wonder how many of the songs in the movie are owned by the Michael Jackson estate and if the decision to make this movie was prompted by his death and the expectation that they will have a easier time getting the rights now??
