'X-Men Origins: Magneto' To Move Forward 'In The Next Year'

Goyer spoke with MTV News about the long rumored "X-Men Origins: Magneto" project, and while the filmmaker acknowledged its prospects, he also mentioned that "Magneto" is just one in a long line of potential X-films.
"They're still thinking about doing it," Goyer revealed to MTV News. "They're definitely looking into doing other X-Men spinoffs."
Some of those projects include "X-Men: First Class," which would focus on a young Cyclops, Jean Grey and Beast; "Deadpool," a spin-off of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" showcasing Ryan Reynolds' titular mercenary (assuming his gig as Green Lantern doesn't effect his Marvel job); and "Wolverine 2," a sequel to the first "X-Men Origins" spin-off that takes Hugh Jackman to Japan.
Of those films, official announcements have been made on both "the former finding a screenwriter and the latter having a lead actor. While "X-Men Origins: Magneto" has yet to progress that far, Goyer felt confident that the movie would pick up speed shortly.
"I've been in touch with them," he said. "I'm sure that project will move forward in the next year or so."
But with a dance card that includes "Super Max," a hopeful third "Batman" film and a producer role on ABC's "Flash Forward," will Goyer have enough time to helm "Magneto" as was once hoped? If his prediction pans out, we should know the answer within the next year.

first if they are gonna have a magnento movie they need to have a better magnento than the one they used for the trilogy in the comics this guy was quite buff and the guy they used was small and frail. as for the deadpool spinoff that would be nice, as for the green lantern flick i didnt hear about that but that is awesome. .also if they are gonna add another blade movie i would go see it just b/c it would be way better than seeing that twilight crap.

I think Magneto could bring a lot of interesting psychological drama to the X-Men series. I think it should be dark and mysterious, and not all action, action, action every 2 minutes.

That's impossible to do since his power is invisible and he isn't a fighter. He's a talker. =P

I like ALL of the X-Men movies.
I, however, believe that if they do the X-Men First Class that they could totally star the entire series over again and ignore EVERYTHING that has anything to do with those three movies. Makes someone go back in time...do whatever is reasonable to make that one the start of something fresh and closer to what the comics are...making Cyclops a vital role of whatever happens in the X-Men. Logan was NEVER a team player and I can't stand that they forced it to happen.

Can't say that i really liked ALL of them but I agree with you on any new ones. They REally screwed up Storm (she was the only that could get Logan to behave most of the time) and Rogue (mostly because she was so young in the film). I really hope Beast gets more spotlight; he's a great character. Kelsey Grammer did a bang up job and his story could easily add a much needed realistic emotional element to any future X-film!

I think the x- men movies are done - a new concept is required in Hollywood - maybe Thundercats

It's not done.
X-Men is like Star Trek....there's far too much that could be done. All you need is someone that sees it in a way that'll translate well.
This "new concepts" is a cliche phrase.

Between Wolverine and X3 they've screwed up X-Men enough. Leave it alone Hollywood. I'm tired of seeing you idiots miss the point entirely.

She was Goddess of Africa and her parents died when a wall fell on them...making her clostrophobic. Totally something that they did not harp on enough (or at all) in any of the X-Men movies.

Magneto could be more poignant as a dramatic character than many Marvel staples. Victor V. D. who fights an annual battle in HELL for his mothers DAMNED SOUL,....well, .....still no 1. Doom is more interesting than many of the heroes .... and without him, "Vader" is but the shadow of a dream,....( hell,...no dream,...no shadow>)

Here's hoping it's better than Origins: Wolverine.
I think it speaks volumes when the console game is leagues better than the movie itself. - 2 years ago

Wolverine sucked though. I hope the second one, and all other Marvel movies for that matter, are much better.

It was entertaining and the fight scenes were good.
It did not suck.
Suck was Batman & Robin and if anything was worse than that....by all means call it suck. But rarely is anything worse than that last Batman movie of that era.

I agree. I though Wolverine was pretty decent. There were a handful of inconsistencies with the comics but much, much less than the other X-films!
