Is "R U There?" A Viral Start for Cloverfield 2? Probably...Not.

jlichman
R U THERE? is making its' way around the Internet and the obvious links to Cloverfield (literally) are more than apparent.

But is it viral and is it for a film? Well, it certainly fits the bill at 41-seconds and certainly shows something that looks like the Cloverfield monster.

Or is this a fan video? Well, I like to believe it was someone's idea after they were walking past the actual street sign in Santa Monica. And isn't that cause enough to celebrate this vid?

    • Looks like it has the same problems as the first Cloverfield, most notably it doesn't want to focus on the monster.

What I thought was most implausible about the charcaters in the first Cloverfield was that NONE of them showed any actual interest in the monster itself!

A 100 ft tall alien monster is destroying the city and all the main charcaters can do is say, "We've got to save our friend!"

Was that really necessary? Would th emovie have been any less interesting if it followed a group of people who ran back into the city specifically to SEE this once-in-a-lifetime event?

Instead the guy with the video camera rarely seemed all that interested in filming the 100ft tall rampaging alien. Great for movies on a budget that can't afford too much CGI....but not so great for making charcaters acting plausibly in that situation. I mean, we've got people running out in tornadoes to film them....who wouldn't do the same for an actual monster?

I actually saw "Cloverfield" as a first person perspective movie similar to "Jaws." In "Jaws" the shark is hardly ever seen, adding more to the suspense and fear of the shark itself. The main conflict was trying to keep the inhabitants safe from the monster, kind of like the same thing the characters in "Cloverfield" were trying to do at the time. Besides, a giant alien monster just landed in your city and attacked everything. You know you, as a regular citizen, can't fight back. So next best plan is to run away and save those you love.

    • hmmm... this feels like a fan-created video, but who knows? if it is related to the film, i highly doubt that this is actual footage from the film.

    • i really liked the first one because unlike most movies, I actually felt like I was deeply immersed and part of the action. I didn't know what to expect next. I was excited, nervous and kept thinking of what I would do. Can't wait for it to come out.

    • I think Cloverfield was a fantastic piece of art. With a theater infested with re-makes, renditions, and a propensity to glean from every unoriginal source possible, seeing something that unique was refreshing.

    • It would be nice to see a sequel, no doubt about that. Maybe this is a new approach to advertising for movies? (although I think it's a little too early)

    • Hooray a cloverfield sequel. Check it out 38 secs in you can read the street sign. No lie. I loved Cloverfield when it first came out. The best Godzilla like movie I've seen to date.
