    • at first i was worried like many of you but jlichman does have a point about Disney. i just hope they wont do any family friendly crap to marvel. many say its a preemptive strike b/c they feel that universal and sea world might become one company and for universal studios here in Orlando they have a marvel island theme here where its all marvel comics. if disney asks for too much hefty royalties for marvel there they can go to dc comics, dark horse or other comic book companies.

    • How much more does Disney want? It's hard enough not to see something Disney related everywhere you look today already. I will still love Marvel regardless I just think having the Disney named attached would completly devalue the company. I can't believe Marvel soldout like that.

nah. Marvel has ALL SORTS of excellence in its history. Kirby. Ditko. Neil Adams. Arthur Adams. Steranko.B.W. Smith. Buscema brothers (Sal Inking John being best.) Gene Colan foreshadowing motion picture "framework" long before "The Watchmen". And of course Adi Granov!

I cannot. . . will never, deny Marvels rich and glorious history. Phoenix Saga, Frank Millers DareDevil, Todd's spidey.

But if we are talking about the art of comic books, as a whole, not just the drawings. DC's Vertigo has much more compelling and relevant stories, although I haven't picked up a marvel book since TPB 1 of New X-men.

      Am I really missing anything?

    • I think It was already owned by Revlon or something. If a make-up company was OK with the Ironman movie, could Disney do any worse? They are an entertainment company after all...

    • Only time will tell...Still the idea of Wolverine and Mickey Mouse holding hands and frolicking through a field with Gumdrops falling from the sky comes to mind, and it makes me laugh.

I saw the thing Stan Lee did with them a while back...it kinda sucked. If it is any signal as to how this is going to play out, then it's not gonna be pretty, but should at least provide something for the supergeeks to rant about, and who doesn't love a good Nerdrant?

    • I highly doubt much is gonna change. Disney isn't all princesses and Jonas Brothers shit, I doubt they will mess with Marvel too much. If it does happen, however, I don't really care. I'm more into DC.

    • For all the people thinking that Disney is going to ruin Marvel, I'm still waiting for Mickey to start hosting Sportscenter since Disney owns ESPN. I'm pretty sure they purchased Marvel as a business investment and not to purposely ruin your beloved super heroes.

    • There's a lot of good that can come from this deal (more exposure for Marvel, for one). But like with any large business deal like this, fans are right in being wary for the results.

Only thing they can do is wait and see how this turns out.

so is your idea of where your money goes. You don't know where it goes. It eventually does end up (no matter where you spend it) supporting Fox and Disney. Soon they'll be but a few degrees of separation, then what? You'll stay in your house?

If Disney, somehow, owned a mortgage company and that was your home's mortgage company...would you just move because you couldn't bare to have your money going to them?

Haha you certainly are not thinking logically. When my money leaves my hands, it is no longer my money. If someone after me uses his or her money to pay Disney, I cannot help that because it is no longer my money.

Again, you have not given any examples, but nice try trying to troll.

    • Given the right direction, this deal could be, and should be one of the best things that could ever happen to Marvel, and Disney.
I'll bet that there are clauses, in the deal, that prevent characters from being watered down. This , ladies and gentlemen ,could be just what both Disney and Marvel need. If it fails, which I really hope it doesn't, it could ruin them both forever. Walt and Stan, I say yes they can!!!

    • I have mixed feelings about Disney. I love animation and Disney has always played a massive part in making it better. But I don't like how they change stories like Alice in Wonderland and make them family friendly.

And I can't stand Disney manufacture stars like Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers. I refused to go see Ponyo because of they were some of the voice actors.

Basically my biggest fear, that I'm sure many people share is Disney watering down the characters. Not that Marvel's innocent they did it to Iron Man.

I was talking about the original animated movie they did. It wasn't horrible but I think they could have done better.

As for Iron Man, from how I remember him in the comic he didn't grow a conscious so quickly, they could have done a few movies on that alone. Oh and the drug abuse lets not forget the drug abuse. It made him more approachable, that's the reason I like him he wasn't like the other heroes, he was out for him self not some high-mined goody goody.

    • Rosenquartz:

He wasn't made into a goody goody and the second one is going to touch on his alcohol problem. First of all I'm glad they didn't go as slow as the comics. It's unnecessary to take forever to get to where he became the hero.

And he didn't take drugs he only drank a lot.

It's people like you that ruin the movies for everyone else. So negative and unrelenting on what can and cannot be changed to keep the content good. A movie is not a book or a comic book. I hope you know that.

    • Rosenquartz:

First off I used drug abuse as an umbrella term. sorry for not being more clear.

Secondly. I know how to edit just fine. I did if for a living for a while.

Also,we all knew it wasn't going to be just one movie, they could have been truer to the character and still made it fit a move. Besides its not like Iron Man is like the Watchmen where it only appealed to a slim audiences in the first place, It could have done just as well as if it were truer to the character (sorry was paying attention).

And how do I ruin a movie? Have you been at one with me personally? I sit quietly and enjoy what I can and let others do the same. That doesn't stop me from noting in my mind what I would like to have seen done, and I only share those thoughts when asked. So yeah I can see how I ruin a movie, my bad.

Finally, its people like you sir who need to grow up and realize not every one is going to agree with you, and not to attack them for it. You see your tying to paint me as an unreasonable fanboy. I'm not saying the movie was bad, I'm saying it could have been better in my opinion, and last time I checked I'm allowed to have one.

P.S. Whats wrong with being critical? If you are articulate and make valid points you might even get someone into a new media that they would normally not have tried. I know when some friends of mine went with me to see Ink Heart I explained so key deference and they both read the books.

    • Rosenquartz:

The movie will NEVER be the book because that's why it's the movie.

There will be differences. Thinking otherwise is a bad idea.

Critical with reason. Your critical thinking on Iron Man is nitpicking. It's not necessary to have it become snail mode just so you feel that he's less like Batman or Superman or the X-Men. It was quite apparent he was different based on every single scene prior to the explosion and even after. He's cocky, self-centered and certainly thinks his way is the best way....just like the comic book.

Asking for a direct duplication of what you read in that dusty magazine is not reasonable.

Be critical...and I'll be critical as well of someones lack of understating on how a movie is different than a book.

X-Men was something to complain about. But people chose to complain about the wrong things....who played Storm instead of how Storm was written into the movie. They also complained about the costumes instead of how much unnecessary screen time Wolverine got in a movie about a TEAM.

It would seem you wouldn't be pleased with the movie no matter what they had done with Iron Man and that is why it's a problem to begin with.

Like I said I don't think it's a bad movie. You see you were so edger not to think about someone's opinion you just shot back. The movie was good but look at Batman or the Watchmen it could have been better. Both changed things in the movies and were great. In fact I like the ending to the Watchmen movie better than the comic. Those movies are great because they understand the importance of the characters themselves and not necessarily everything else in the comics. that's all I wish was a little better.

Harry Potter for example. I didn't like the books they were like every other coming of age story. but the movies are great even though the leave quite a lot out because they are so true to the characters. Or even Lord of the Rings. I didn't expect it to be the books I know it wasn't going to happen and I didn't want it to. I just wanted to get the same connection to the characters as I did in the books. To me the characters in Iron Man all felt shallow I think that they could have been better.

Also Because you don't read before you post it seems. I am an editor. I've done video and video game editing, I even edit game design documents. One of the first things I learned form my teachers is how they are all different. How can I edit adds, videos, or a game if I don't understand how they are different?

I'm done now. Thank you for playing, hope you learn to listen to people, and not be so stuck on your self.

I listened...but none of that backs you.

      It's all fluff.

Iron Man is Iron Man in that movie. There is no hollow.

You expected too much. Maybe you should have went in like you did with the Watchmen and not expect so much.

PLUS...there are a ton of people that would disagree and say the Watchmen was a terrible movie. What am I suppose to do take their word for it because they said so and not challenge them? Don't worry I have. I think the Watchmen was a good movie.

I think The Dark Knight was good.

I just think Iron Man was tons better. I can watch that again. I could not watch The Dark Knight or The Watchmen again. They were good once....and that would be it. They took themselves far too serious and it was boring at times.

    • ...And Stan Lee falls to the dark side.

In all seriousness, I was sick to my stomach at first, but I actually don't care anymore. This has no real impact on any real world situations. It's just one transition to one company to another. The movies will still either be great or crappy depending on invariables that have virtually no bearing on parent company ownership of the project.

So in closing, Marvel fans shouldn't cry and Disney fans shouldn't drool. X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 might still suck, Iron Man 2 might kick ass, and none of this will have anything to do with the recent sale.

    • Yeah, this won't be too bad. Disney owns Miramax, and Clerks 2 was as good as ever. I doubt Clerks can be called family friendly, @SlimPunk
I don't think that this will slow down Avengers at all. I think the guy in charge might be a marvel fan and thought, "Dude, I can totally buy Marvel Entertainment and say I own that movie."

    • calm down.

Marvel is not going to become "Disnyed." Very little is going to change. It's not like Marvel was that edgy to begin with anyway.

This is how it works: Disney produces media under several different brand names, each catering to a different demographic.
So, we have Disney for kids, ABC for news, Touchstone for more violent, adult content, etc...
They won't change Marvel, they just want all the money it's making.

I mean, besides the first two spiderman films and Iron Man, Marvel wasn't exactly doing so hot... at least not in my eyes. Disappointments like Elektra, Daredevil, BOTH Fantastic Fours, Wolverine and the X-Men franchise... all crap... at least now we have a good excuse for any further abominations

They were not crap. They were just not as good as they could have been.

Iron Man was proof that Marvel knew what it could do with its own characters. With the great ending with Nick Fury to hint at an Avengers movie....they knew how to surprise and excite.

Now under the massive umbrella of Disney and it's great creative skills as well as world knowledge in film, Marvel will grow and be as Superheroic as it was always meant to be.

    • More information from Marvel themselves.

It would come on the heels of Stan Lee making a character for the Disney Channel.

And this could be great news for those that love the X-Men cartoons...maybe Disney will have a Marvel Hour or a whole weekend.....

there's lots of good that can come from this.

      I wish.

I don't. I'm just using my brain and history of the company to dictate how incredibly wrong everyone is. People often complain about fearmongoling, but apparently it's only ok as long as they are the ones causing it.

    • The reason why it is good:

Disney has great world clout. They also have great financial backing. Marvel will be able to create great movies with money to back their imaginations. Disney wants a male fan base. If they tinker with Marvel too much then they won't get it. Marvel has a great male fan base. Disney did not survive all these years because they were stupid. I'm pretty sure they realize that Marvel is doing just fine in this and they won't bother changing much if anything.

    • When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
      Anything your heart desires
      Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream
      No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
      As dreamers do

      Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
      The sweet fulfillment of
      Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
      Your dreams come true

      ----wishes...hopes...for goodness and greatness------
