Lending further credence to the mass deaths of film critics last week (see report here), three of the top five box office hits were deemed so bad by their film companies that they were released without the customary screenings for reviewers.

There's something to be said for mindless entertainment. I have no problem with it. In fact, check out my review of, say, Fast & Furious:
http://web.me.com/writa1/tvsoundoff/Film_Reviews/Entries/2009/3/31_The_literati_...But that doesn't mean a film (or a book or a TV show) has to be stupid. And the point of this:
http://web.me.com/writa1/tvsoundoff/Blog/Entries/2009/8/28_Entry_1.html
Is that more and more studios are putting out films they know are bad and don't care.

Star Trek was pretty good, Let the Right One In was a good story.... side note... has anyone noticed the complete lack of films with original ideas/concepts, meaning films that aren't based on books, comics, video games or 80's cartoons?

(500) Days of Summer.
Away We Go.
The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas.
The I. Bastard movie...it's spelled so terribly I can't be bothered. Brad Pitt's movie. That's original and good.
I'm sure there is more.

I can't even name a great film that has been released in the last few years. Can you?

That is pretty sad. Maybe you should actually go to the movies.
Doubt.

I like Final Destination movies....all of them.
I'm glad GI Joe cracked 100 Million as well.

I see movies at the theater about 10-12 times a year, too often if you ask me. I rent and download others. I've seen a lot, just nothing great.

Then you should see good movies instead of picking bad ones.
Like DOUBT. =P
Anyone stating that that movie is not good is clearly someone that should stick to video games and short cartoons.

Three movies on the list you'd have to pay me to see...G.I. Joe, Halloween II and, of course, Final Destination. Didn't these kind of movies used to go straight to DVD?
