Heirs to the comic book artist Jack Kirby, a creator of characters and stories behind Marvel mainstays like “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four,” last week sent 45 notices of copyright termination to Marvel and Disney, as well as Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Universal Pictures, and other companies that have been using the characters.
The notices expressed an intent to regain copyrights to some of Mr. Kirby’s creations as early as 2014, according to a statement disclosed on Sunday by Toberoff & Associates, a law firm in Los Angeles that helped win a court ruling last year returning a share of the copyright in Superman to heirs of one of the character’s creators, Jerome Siegel.

What are they going to do with them?
Hoard them?
Why not just get payment for their use? And Jack Kirby wasn't the only person that created them if that's going to be their backing.
Stan Lee gave his blessing.
They could just be greedy banking on people's dislike of big corporations owning things to help them win....in a jury trial. Ick.
I think they should just go for a share. Owning these characters will be too much hassle for them and it would be fair easier to have profit. If that is all they are after, what a small price to pay.
If they want to own them again in years to come. ...welcome to KINGDOM LAME.

Movie News Update:
According to DHD...
Here's the official statement: “Marvel received the termination notices and is reviewing the information and has no additional comment at this time.” In other words, they're gobsmacked.http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/marvel-reacts-to-jack-kirby-estate-lawsuit/

I'm so glad to hear this. Writers deserve the right to stop the bastardization of their creations.
Plus, I can't see anything good coming from a Disney owned Marvel, other than Bruce Campbell playing Donald Duck in the next Spider-Man movie, that is.

it's not Disney yet, which is why it may be happening now. These kinds of things are frequently quite Gothic. These suits may even be simply be an attempt by disney to get Marvel to lower it's asking price.
