"Steven Soderbergh put on his experimental hat and busted out The Girlfriend Experience, a film about a high priced call girl, her personal trainer boyfriend and their respective clients. What makes the movie experimental is Soderbergh’s aversion to professional actors, his disdain for linear storytelling and his use of digital cameras and no lighting set ups. Also setting the movie apart from most other films is the long series of stationary camera set ups, often far away from his characters, capturing the moments in a fly on the wall, almost documentary sort of way. Clever use of an interview with a journalist increases this fake-documentary thing."
