What's better than a cult hit that makes it big? One that doesn't, of course.

The fact that Joss Whedon's TV show "Firefly" got canceled before the end of its first season hasn't kept it from spawning a movie ("Serenity"), rabid fans and, now, a $2,495 limited-edition replica of the eponymous ship (Firefly class, named Serenity).

Here's the description, from model maker Quantummechanix:

More than three years in the making, Serenity – The Big Damn Replica, has been painstakingly crafted to be absolutely screen-accurate in every aspect. Unlike most other iconic ships from science fiction, Serenity was designed from the ground up to be as realistic as possible, from her floor plan to her construction, using real-world components and manufacturing processes. As one of her creators observed, the idea was to make Serenity so real, fans could easily imagine themselves walking her decks. With such a sense of place and familiarity, viewers would never feel lost in this Firefly-Class Transport.

When it came time to develop this replica, we could do no less. Every bolt, every seam and every asymmetrical plate has been recreated with exacting detail in this first and only screen-accurate replica. Years of intense effort have gone into all aspects of this model, from the sculpture taken directly from the movie CG master files to the paint job created to match not just the colors of the ship, but the materials as well.

The model measures 19 inches by 12 inches by 7 inches, or 1:180 scale to the "real" Serenity. It includes resin, brass, aluminum and laser-cut acrylic, but no decals -- all graphics are hand-painted.

A wireless remote operates the model's 32 lighting effects. Eight members of Serenity's crew stand on the bridge.
