Where the Wild Things Are is more for adults than young people

But in the film, Max isn’t just having a bad day. He’s having a bad life. He’s a smart child with a great imagination. He makes up magical stories to tell his mom. But he’s also troubled. Everyone ignores him, especially his sister. He doesn’t seem to have any friends. And his parents are divorced.
His mother’s hold on her job seems tenuous, and when she has a male friend over for dinner young Max (Max Records), completely loses his cool. When mom (Catherine Keener) tries to control him, he doesn’t yell “I’ll eat you,” he actually bites her.

    • Did this book not come out in the 80s? So would this movie not be mostly aimed towards those kids that grew up in the 80's? And where surprised it's not that much aimed to kids now, why?

There's been a alot of films as of late that seem to be for 'kids' but are more for adults/teens. I give you 9!

    • Awesome movie with great voice acting. Couldn't believe Gandolfini did voice acting for "Carol" until I saw the credits. Movie is not for younger audiences. Pretty dark and disturbing at times. I loved it though, lol, max almost got "whacked" a couple of times.

    • I was confused when I left as to why this was a kids movie but really its a PG rated adult film. Not for kids, 13+ okay. It has very dark undertones and complex emotions that kids won't understand.

It was a good movie but don't go in thinking it is a kids film.

honestly how can anyone state a child does not understand complex emotions? how can you say it is not a kids film. simply because it is beyond your capacity to understand that a child is just a small person who has not had the same measure of life experience as you have does not mean they can not or do not understand. or is it that you have had limited life experiences and are projecting onto others your level of understanding?
