As spike said he didn't go out to make a kids movie but a movie about being a kid and that's exactly what the film is. Most of the kids in the theater didn't like it but all the older people did because they could relate to their childhood. It almost seems like if something seems inventive or artsy it's automaticly a "hipster" movie by the general consensus. It just shows a ton of ignorance on this site.

this movie was a cinematic feat. one of, if not, the best work of cinema about childhood ever. a evocative, unsentimalized film that parents should take their (older) kids to see.

I'm never going to know what a hipster is.
So here's who we hate:
Hipsters
Goths
Emos
Punks
Gangsters
Potheads
Liberals
Conservatives
Communists
Socialists
Neo-Nazis
People that brethe air
People that have internet
People that care about the environment
people that listen to music that we don't like
people that's opinions differ than our ownwho else?

I'll probably watch it, all hopped up on 36 cups of coffee; I think I'll schedule it before my fart sniffing, and after mocha latte enema... Might even do some cheap drugs just before I enter the theater, get a sense of oneness/relation with/to the common people I never truly understood. From there it's off to the beat poetry reading, where I'll most definitely get caught up in that same old conversation/rant about how someones bad investments (I'm not responsible for) are going to cause my trust fund to go dry 2 years to early. Complain, about the rise of cream prices, and it's effect on my espresso habit. Go home whining to my frigid (I think it's the Valiums or me totally lacking of attractive qualities) girlfriend about how the man (aka daddy) is/has kept me from reaching my full potential...
Seriously tho, that's a really me to the T.....
I gotta see that movie.

Um... No, we're just talking about how ironically Current.com is based on things that today's hipster prides them selves on. HEY! Lets go green! Hey Hipster/indie music! Hey non-mainstream media. and don't even get me started on Sergio's white hot top 5, and how he rags on mainstream music, bet he goes back and cranks some Grizzly Bear afterward. Hipsters in this day and age are defined by there, no popular mainstream music stuff, you'll never catch them in wal-mart, but they'll be in Starbucks and Wholefoods, you'll catch them at Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, but not American Eagle, and they will always boast their green, vegan, or organic ideals, while listening to their favorite obscure band that hasn't broken into MTV yet, and when they do, they're not cool anymore.
Actually, I rather hang around a hipster than most people, since I share some of their interest, minus the snark and snide attitude, and the drugs.

im so behind on all these scenes its not even funny. when i hear about what it takes to be in a certain scene theres always a bit of my personality that i think fits into it. it annoys me cause im not in any scene and ive got all these people saying if i do this or dress like that then im a robot of some sort. fuck you , whoever decides what makes someone belong to a certain scene i dont belong to any scene i think for myself. (or is that something a hipster would say?)

In a terrible twist of irony, yes it is exactly what a hipster would say. I feel your pain, having survived art college without "conforming to non-conformity", but more than that, I just can't stand seeing boys wearing their little sister's jeans. :P

I tried to like this movie, since it was a great story when i was a kid, but i couldn't get myself to show any emotion for any of the characters. They had to make a lot up, and a lot wasn't explained, i found myself trying to understand more stuff, than watching it.

...yeah 'cause your post made sense and all. Glad I could read and understand your abominable spelling and grammar. Go read a book (at a higher reading level than Maurice Sendak's work, perhaps).

I've kinda viewed hipsiter as those that are rebelling against those that have been rebelling for 30 some odd years. Punks. Once known as 'scene kids' hipsites have found a place in both known but not to cool brand name clothes and the having to find thrift store clothes. Their full of them self's and act like their shit don't stink. As if their god's gift to fashion and music. Their music mostly sucks and the look has been done, thank you 60's and 70's. It's unoriginal and just sad to see people that need to be act like they dont want to be 'seen' but obviouesly want too.
And i have a feel A LOT of hipsiters use this site. I have a few friends that are hipster, thus why ive come to this conclusion.

the movie sucked, plain and simple.
I'm not surprised a 20 page children's story with just over 400 words didn't make a very deep film, but it was completely void of anything but image and angst.
To me, the definition of a hipster/scenester is someone whose interests are based on image without any interest in the deeper meaning behind whatever is being consumed. It is the apex of postmodern pastiche, a hyperconsumption of all things non-mainstream with complete disregard to their origins. This hunt for the "undiscovered" is never ending, and far too often people end up with the commodified, "Urban Outfitter" version of a trend that was invented somewhere by real people who will never have their intended message received.
I encourage everyone to go back and read Where the Wild Things Are and discover for themselves exactly what were Maurice Sendak's intentions.

Just watched this short also done by Spike Jonze, it made me respect Where the Wild Things Are much more. The film is much more than aesthetic, which is pretty much what my first post said, he has a strong psychological undercurrent that did not hit me until watching Kanye tell his ego to commit seppuku.
It is not a prepackaged or heavy-handed film, nor it is a vapid fetish piece. It treats the story with a distance and detachment that gives it proper gravity.
And I'd like to take the time out to apologize for all the jargon, I'm an anthropologist who works in film, it is hard to turn it off sometimes...

Why does it matter? It was a great child's book and now it's an even better movie. I don't see why it's a bad thing for it to be popular.

The place in the url is basically a website that uploads or links pictures and videos of hipsters and their hipsterness, in a way like "Hot Chicks with Douchebag".

I don't see why people hate hipsters so much, when they act just as expert about the shit they like as any other scene. And the ironic thing about Current is that while it's a place where the users come to voice negativity against hipsters, it's ironically something that would appeal to hipsters, as this relevant news boasting, anti MTV, underground artist pushing vehicle, all the things the hipsters lurve.

Well Current had a lot of hipsters (I hate myself for saying this..) in the beginning, it was kinda like that yeah, but then slowly Current got a little more popular and they abandoned it.
Like their favorite band when they sell more than 10 albums. - 2 years ago
