3 Important Questions for you to answer about 2012/the end of the world

chapinyoung
There's this movie coming out called "2012" and it's about the world changing dramatically and maybe ending. It brings up some really interesting philosophical questions and we're hoping to get YOU, the Current community, to chime in with your thoughts and opinions.

Here are the questions:
1. If chaos is erupting around you (like above) would you stand your ground and FIGHT, would you make a break for it and FLEE or would you be so panicked you'd FREEZE and probably hide under your bed or in the tub?

2. If the world as we know it does actually end in the year 2012, what's on your list to do before it does? Do you want to see Peru? Do you want to skydive? Do you want to streak through the mall in your birthday suit? Do you want to have an important conversation with someone? What's on your "to do before the world ends" list?

3. If only a fraction of the earth's population could be saved by packing them up on spaceships or in underground bunkers, who should be saved and why, and further, who gets to choose and how? (I think this one is the hardest of the three.)

These questions were posed by "2012" star Chiwetel Ejiofor when he came in recently, and we want to include the thoughts and opinions of the Current community in his episode of The Current Takeover, premiering Wednesday, 11/11 at 7:30/6:30c.

Thanks guys!

    • 1.) As quickly as possible, I would round up my kids and yank them from whatever activity they were involved in, throw them into the car, and meet my husband midway at some point. We'd take one car to the most serene place and enjoy our last moments together eating peanut butter and jelly (because I am not going to fight with a bunch of peple in the grocery with panicked attitudes over food when I've got a lot of loving to do back at a pretty place on limited time). Your questions asks, if I would stand my ground and fight. I think we have to ask what people are fighting for, as well. If chaos were erupting all around, as in the movie, I would be fighting to protect my family, because it looks as if the world at large is imploding, or exploding from within, a tragedy of grave proportions that is likely outside of Hollywood, to create a final curtain call on this planet for the human race - scientifically speaking. People who say they'd fight - are prison guards going to stay at work across the country and keep murderers and rapists locked up knowing there's a possibility they won't see their family in a few hours - some will, but the majority won't and those who do report will have riots and eventually the jails and prisons will be overrun. That is one major system which will be overrun. Traffic systems will be overrun in much the same way. People will fight, but safety will become such an issue, that anarchy will create hazardous situations that will feed chaos - I am not trying to play the devil's advocate - I'm just saying it's great to have an good attitude about staying and foghting and helping the cause, but from a practical standpoint, there are major issues that have to be considered, and to consider those who would gather their family and reminisce before the end of the world "weak", perhaps they might be considered a little more wise. Who would want for their kids' or their loved one's last images before death to be their parents or significant others burning to death in front of them, or drowning, as possible to deduct from the images from the movie trailer?

2.) I honestly would like to figure out a way to volunteer on one of those mission trips to Darfur or Rwanda and take my oldest son with me. We both want to go, really, really bad! There are other places, in Africa we have our eye on, we just can't seem to narrow it down and figure out how to make it happen. But, we've got until 2012, right? I guess if we could meet Angelina Jolie she could take us there tomorrow, though! LOL

3.) Here's how that works. First of all, we need to save Angelina Jolie, first and foremost. I don't care if we save any of her producers or cast writers, it's because of her humanitarian efforts, and her heart - that's why I like Ms. Jolie. Anybody who works with her on her humanitarian efforts should also be saved - American or not, Christian or not. Further, we need at least one dr, so I'd like this man: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33197187/ns/health-health_care/ we definitely DO NOT want any of those Jackson dr's or Anna Nicole doctors - yikes! That said, I honestly am not sure about the rest, besides people who are intersted in preservation of our planet, our people, our cultures, and working together, not against each other to move forward in exploration and understanding, development, and love. Cabeesh? ;-)

      2. I don't have a list. Life is too short to feel guilty about never seeing the Eiffel Tower or some crap like that. I've done and seen great things without any plan at all.
      3. It should just be a random lottery. There is no other fair way to do it. The president and the janitor all get one chance.

    • 1. of course i'd fight. there's people in my life i love too much to just hide under a tub while the world turns to dust.

      2. the world could end today and i wouldn't feel as though i missed out on anything. i wouldn't die thinking "i wish i had done this or that." i'd be happy i lived the life i wanted, even if it isn't perfect. it'd still be nice to ride a horse before i die, but i won't agonize over that. ;P

      3. i think those who are willing to stay behind and sacrifice their lives so that others may escape and survive should be the ones to live.

[edit] oh, and how to decide? easy. they'll be the ones waiting peacefully in their homes or in shelters, not crawling over and beating down people to get to safety.

    • 1. I truly would love to die fighting in a zombie invasion... Can we make that happen Chapin?
      2. I ascribe to the Tracy Morgan philosophy... "Live each week like it's shark week." If you do that, you have no real regrets... Nothing's left undone.
      3. 2 words... Al Gore.
