There was once upon a time this fox who, for lack of a better name, we’ll call Mr. Fox. He was sly, suave, a sharp dresser, a true ladies’ man. He was the best in his field: sneaking into farms late at night and stealing the chickens from their coop. Then he met this equally charming, good-looking fox. After getting caught in a trap, she tells Mr. Fox that she’s pregnant and makes him promise that, if they get out alive, he will renounce his wily ways and settle down. And so he did, accepting a job as a columnist for the local newspaper.
So begins “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” the new film by Wes Anderson, the director of “Rushmore” and “the Royal Tenenbaums.” Based on the classic Roald Dahl children’s novel, “Fantastic Mr. Fox” marks Anderson’s first foray into stop-motion animation and the results are truly thrilling and enchanting.
