“The Forest” is a beautiful, deep and somewhat disturbing animated short film created by David Sharf. This really exceptional work presents beautiful graphics that that are stylish and unique, with the storytelling conveyed through haunting voice-overs. The film raises the very emotional question of whether our sense of inner peace is merely a utopian state unless we can find a way to escape from the iron grip of society’s rule.
The film’s story centers on a daydreaming 12-year-old girl named Antonia, whose imagination takes her far away into a magical forest where she hides from the problems of the real world. Without giving away too much, Antonia’s father takes some very drastic measures, shattering the little girl’s fantasy world and forcing her to make some very difficult choices. Antonia finds a simple but radical solution to cope with the hostile environment that entraps her. You should just watch this film to see her desperate response, it’s only six-minutes long.
Includes colorful illustrations from the film, as well as the wonderful, thought-provoking animated short, “The Forest.”
