Where will inspiration come from? For director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis), revered maestro of Italian cinema, it tends to arrive in a shapely form. However, he is never certain if the form will be that of his wife, mistress or leading lady. Other possible sources might be dear mamma or the spirited prostitute who indoctrinated the young Guido in the mysteries of amore.
