After seeing a performance of “Passing Strange” as a guest of Stew, the show’s star, a New York City pretzel vendor told him (and I paraphrase): Art is where we look for the clarity that “real life” often seems reluctant to reveal.
Stew -- yes, like Prince or Cher -- knows a little something about this phenomenon. Having followed an uncommon path from South Central L.A. to Amsterdam to Berlin to Broadway, he distilled some of the life lessons learned along the way into his hugely entertaining musical drama/performance piece.
