Spielberg to make live-action 3D "Ghost in the Shell".

Universal and Sony were also chasing "Ghost in the Shell," but Steven Spielberg took personal interest in the property and made it happen at DreamWorks.

" 'Ghost in the Shell' is one of my favorite stories," Spielberg said. "It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks."

    • IT will be interesting to see where he goes with this. I think that it is only a matter of time before people go from ripping book direct to movies and move on to anime. But I wish it was james cameron or Peter Jackson.
      And with dreamworks a 3-d Animation would be better wouldn't.

      Mabye he is thinking making ghost in a shell into his own avatar.

    • He better do a better job with this than he did with the Crystal Skull. I can understand taking an epic story concept of your own and fucking it up, but it he takes someone else's brilliant concept and turns it to crap then God, Krishna, or whomever willing, somebody better slap him around like a red headed step child.

    • dont worry there are no funky aliens with random names like vegeta, garlic, or piccolo in ghost in the shell. and no one with a disproportionately large head. the wachowski brothers' matrix movies were heavily influenced by ghost in the shell.

      A tranny that looks like every possible future's fashion compressed to a singularity and then blowup on him/her tries to find a normal relationship... that might actually have potential.

    • yeah I agree with smurph25 above, part of the character of that series itself is it's stylized anime world, put it in reality and you lose the whole "Ghost in the Shell" feel.
