let this video load, watch it, then go buy some sweet sweet tickets to a punch brothers show.
**UPDATE**
~~scratch that, "toe jolt". i can now say after some sunday night research at the lyric in blacksburg, virginia, that thile is definitely the elvis of mandolin playing. he really pulled out some new moves i have never seen him use, not to mention the gnarley and gritty new depths of playing they all collectively reached. i am pretty sure the punch brothers could power at least a small room, if not a kitchen appliance, with the electric musical energy they are able to produce.~~
an immensely gifted artist, whose talents know no bounds, chris thile and his brothers punch, are, well--freaking amazing. though this is a cover of the strokes, you can see their crazy amazing skills busting out of their fingertips-chris thile's talent simmers at his toes, and jolts up through his arms and out comes his unmatchable mandolin playing- literally, the best in the world.if you are lucky enough to see them live, you will witness this toe jolt. ~~
they aren't bluegrass, aren't rock and roll, aren't country, not quite classical. what are they? you decide, and let me know. mostly, just enjoy getting to know these guys.
*chris thile was in the much under rated, and still little known group, nickel creek.
*i would suggest buying "how to grow a woman from the ground". this was their first album as a group, before settling on their current name. you will not regret it.
