We asked Susan to tell us about her experience with this project and her involvement.
Here is her story:
"Secret Lives of Dorks was one of those films that was magical from the get go. Jenny Hinkey and I worked together on Stephen Israel's film Death In Texas years ago and she mentioned my name to Stephen when he needed to get a High School look at a legal age (18+). I hadn't cast extras in YEARS so I knew it would be fun, take me back to my roots and then the clincher, Stephen Wolfe was on board and he produced my favorite film last year- 500 Days of Summer!
When I cast, I hand pick the people- a photo can tell alot and how someone responds can tell if they will be difficult or not. From day 1, we had a GREAT group of non speaking actors (extras, background players) and we had raffles everyday and -gave everything away from a TV, to acting classes to Frederick of Hollywood lingerie! Each and every day the crew would come and take our donuts and we would go raid thier crafty and we'd all laugh. We danced, became zombified-at one point, I had a zombie face and was dressed as a pirate witch, we were in the cold together, one day I took the few extras that weren't on set out for a one hour field trip! Laughed we did, a nutty set family we became. I am so grateful to everyone on that project.
