i am partial to their live npr tiny-desk performance, but the album takes it to another level. ok, you must listen to the npr first :). buy the deluxe installment of "strict joy". the live performances are amazing, and glen hansard is able to fully spin his tales about the songs and lyrics. while they seem lengthy at first, the music would not feel the same without his energetic story telling.

If you are not familiar with the swell season, think back to the film "once", and let out your shouts of excitement. the void left by this beautiful and talented pair has been filled by, "strict joy", an album dedicated to love, expressed and seen from different angles. it's not always pretty, but it can always be made beautiful, as glen hansard and marketa irglova provide sincere, and passionate accounts. i guess you could put them into the "adult alternative" category-but please, DO NOT. if there is one thing i cannot stand, it is that horrid little grouping that has helped to confuse listeners, and hide unique and talented artists from achieving the level of recognition they deserve. if you believe in the power of music, the power of love, and most importantly, the human spirit, support this group. do yourself a favor, and fill your cup with a warm and soul kindling cup of the swell season.
