“Avatar: Earth’s Last Stand” – A Proposed Prequel That Is Uncomfortably Close To Reality

We generally escape to the movie theater to forget about the reality of our own lives for a few hours, but what happens when the plot we're following is eerily like that which is unfolding as we speak outside in our own natural environment?

    • i loved this movie and it kinda seems like most people who didn't like are pissed about it being about the planet getting fucked up and it having allusions to the iraq oil thing. To people who think that--i don't wanna call anyone a dumbass but come on. come up with a better reason to hate it. don't hate t because it talks about us in a negative light.

    • I thought, even though it was very clichè, avatar was very entertaining. I just don't get the people that say it was terrible; it's a big budget action movie. The plot was decent and the effects were great, so it succeeded in it's purpose. Which is to entertain you for a couple of hours.

    • the first movie was about greed and sucked, but had great visuals. so now we're going to make another movie about greed and looks like it will suck worse, and still have great visuals.

      damnit hollywood, make better movies

    • um am i only the one who is of the position that we don't know yet about global warming?? could be man-made, could be a big overblown scam, but taking a firm stance either way seems premature at this point...

...BUT we will all still run out of oil whether or not greenhouse gases are to blame! so let's stay ahead of the curve and be the ones with the solution when the wells run dry.

    • It could be a perfectly good origin story. I have always wondered how all the reasonable people became extinct and idiots inherited the earth. No wonder the planet went to hell and they had swagger innumerable light years across the cosmos to beat down and exploit ten foot tall smurfs.

lol yeah. i think it's because a lot of intelligent are often persecuted or overwhelmed by stupidity. that or a lot of them don't come forward. And often there are intelligent people but they do evil things and make sure everyone is too dumb to oppose them. or something like that.

    • I'm glad cinema had the balls to take on corporate america's decision-making towards "The Bottom-line". So if they want to make a second movie with profits from the first movie they sunk all their money into GOOD FOR THEM.

    • I love how lame this idea sounds after you think about it. There's no giant red pterasaurs, no 12 foot tall blue aliens, no tree of souls, no drop ship crash... just Earth. Earth slowly drowning in it's own puddle of vomit formerly known as the human race.

    • You know, I'm disheartened everyday by the lack of recognition of the predicament we're in. To many I work with, meet, and just casually talk to have strong beliefs that humans are not causing problems and everything is fine. FYI folks, everything is not fine and we're the most likely culprit.

I guess you can't fix stupid.

    • I was skeptical when I read the headline but after I followed the link I'm intrigued.

Although I have to admit, I've given up on film as a persuasive medium. There is no modern film equivalent to world-changing writing like Paine's "Common Sense."

People just watch movies to be entertained and you can't be stirred to action with entertainment.

I don't know if I'd give up on the persuasive ability of film. There are certainly some documentaries I've watched over the years that have had a profound effect on me and have made me make some changes. Fiction as a genre is less effective, but I wouldn't discredit film altogether.

no way man, movies are a beneficial double whammy! entertainment and influence/inspiration. i love all types of movies for that reason, you can learn something from all types and apply new ways of thinking, living, and knowledge to your life.

maraised, totally right about docs. lots of stuff effects me, but how is someone not supposed to be inspired by food inc, fast food nation, or the cove???

some fiction has its truth too, but certainly the whole genre isn't meant for that, but it definitely can be.
