The internet rumor mill has been set ablaze the past couple of days over the casting of the title character for the Joe Johnson directed CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. More recently, the focus has been on the possibility of THE OFFICE star, John Krasinski as a forerunner. Early today, it was announced that he even seemed to be the forerunner, which sparked outrage from basement dwelling Marvel Comics fans anyway. Well, comic fans who have gotten their panties all in a twist can rest easy. Krasinksi is out.

According to SlashFilm, the names now being shot around seem to be Mike Vogel of CLOVERFIELD, and Garret Hedlund of TRON: LEGACY, who were previously on the list. They also appear to be looking at Marvel alumni Chris Evans, who previously appeared as Johnny Storm in the two FANTASTIC FOUR films.

We originally heard from director Joe Johnson that a Captain America would be selected by March 1st. Nine days have now passed since that date, which is leaving us to believe that this is a far more difficult decision than they had originally guessed.
