Actor Corey Haim dead at 38

'Lost Boys' actor Corey Haim has died at the age of 38, the LA Police Department has confirmed. It's reported to be due to an accidental drugs overdose.

Haim died in the early hours of this morning at his home in the Oakwood apartments of Los Angeles.

He found fame as a teenager in the 80s, starring alongside Corey Feldman and 24's Kiefer Sunderland in vampire classic The Lost Boys.

In the 90s, he slipped towards obscurity, starring in a few films that went straight to video, and spending time in rehab for a prescription drug problem.

In 2007, he was reunited with Feldman when they both starred in the reality show The Two Coreys.

Haim had spoken openly of his use of drugs:

"I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck. But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day - the doctors could not believe I was taking that much. And that was just the Valium - I'm not talking about the other pills I went through."

    • He was one of the best Teen actors around and he was twice better than Miley Cyrus and even cooler than those damn Jonas brothers.

R.I.P Corey We will miss you and your name will never be forgotten in the film world.

Well, I guess that's where you and I must differ. I feel sympathy for anyone in pain and this guy was obviously in a lot of pain. God, it's written all over his face. I hope he finds the peace now that he never seemed to find in life.

And, yes, Lost Boys is a classic.

    • I love current. I have had more fun reading all of your comments than the story itself, which isn't news. GodsnLiberals, you need to calm down about this. Who cares what people do or don't do with their lives? It's not your job to pass judgement on others. That goes for everyone else here. Here are some quick facts:
      1. Alcohol was illegal at one point. The government knew they could make more money that way.
      2. Hemp is the best fabric in the world. If we industrialized it, there would be no need to cut down trees.
      3. Hemp, and cannabis smoke help to reverse the green house effect.
      4. Fourteen states have legalized the use of medical marijuana, with 14 more about to vote on the issue.
      5. Cigarettes kill more people than anything else, yet no one seems to mention it.
      6. There has never been a single case where weed alone has been the cause of death.
      7. Marijuana is a natural herb created by your God. Prescription drugs are a manifestation of man meant to numb the mind.
      8. Smoking weed; side effects include: hunger, creativity, humor, and sleep.
      9. Every other legal drug (including alcohol and cigarettes); side effects include: cancer, bloody stools, diarrhea, anal leakage, high blood pressure, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, anemia
decreased levels of potassium, decreased levels of sodium, heart attack, death, and the list goes on and on.
      10. Just because someone smokes weed, does not make them a loser. If they didnt have weed to smoke, they would probably still be a loser.

I could go on all day about this, but what's the point. Just look at a place like amsterdam. The abuse rate is extremely low, and when was they last time you heard bad news from amsterdam? The point is, the more you deny something from people, the more they are going to want it. Just look at prohibition of alcohol. Not only were people putting themselves in harms way, just for a drink, it gave way to one of the biggest crime waves in history. Bootlegging was a favorite of many gangs back in their time.

As for me, I am successful in my field, I finished school, pay my own way, own a lovely home, own my own business, and smoke everyday. So before you pas judgement on something, maybe you should do a little research of your own. I am not condoning the use of "drugs", but some of us have got things figured out.

    • You sick haters suck for your inhumanity in the face of death. I never knew the guy; I suppose you did?... Probably not. He was, to some extent, the victim of his circumstances. He was in the business from a very young age. From what I've read, he didn't even want to be in the business... his mom coaxed him into it. I'm not saying he made good decisions, but some of you are acting like he was a rapist or something. He was just a man who took the wrong path and had a damn hard time getting off of it. You make me sick with your judgements. Let the man rest in peace. I don't believe he's had peace in a long while.

    • Death seems to be everywhere these days! & Drugs seem to be a very common cause of death! (TOO COMMON!!!) Death is sad! He was a young guy! He had problems with drugs for some time! & even when you take prescription drugs, take to wrong dose & you're dead! Overdose deaths are on the rise for sure! Sad that drugs are so overly used these days! KIDS! Let this be a lesson! Drugs kill!!! You can take something as simple as a sleeping pill,up the dose & never wake up! That's how freaky pills are! Does anyone else find it a bit odd that most of the `80's child stars turned to drugs about the time they became adult actors? There are few I can name that didn't have some big drug issues! Hmmm...R.I.P. Haim!!!

    • Quite sad, only 38, is just an older kid.
That's where intervention needs to get more involved with friends not letting too much time elapse between phone calls, and visits.
At least emails & SMS to get a sense of well being.

      Unreal that much Valium.
Doctors had me on it 30 years ago, after a bad car wreck as passenger.
I did complain they were not working after a few days.
He said take a beer with it.
To put it exactly in robot moves, I ended up with all position knee joints making walking a new challenge.

Sorry, lifestudent. I searched for 'Corey Haim' via the box at the top right before posting mine but it didn't do a good job of finding anything and I was keen to get the story on the UK homepage as soon as possible. Thanks for adding yours as soon as you heard the news.

To be fair lifestudent, what difference does the legality make? Drugs are drugs. The only real difference is that the government and pharmaceutical companies only profits from the legal ones - and so many celebrities have proved from their graves, Prescription ones are no better, they are certainly no safer and are clearly used more so than recreational drugs. All drugs taken by users are for one issue or another. Don't be fooled into the gross misconception that Prescription Drug overdoses are any different to Illegal Drug overdoses - the use is just the same.

Actually, that's my point. GnL demonizes illegal drugs all the time, especially marijuana, an "illegal drug" that never killed anyone.

I was being facetious for the most part, but I wasn't too clear on that. Sorry about any confusion.

Personally, I would rather take cannabis than most prescription drugs out there right now. It's safer by far.

I see I see! and totally agree. A spliff any day of the week is (for me) far less scary than the dangerous addictive nature of prescription drugs. Companies like GnL have just taken a piece of the action from the traditional drugs barons. At least we knew exactly where we were with them. Big Pharma = Evil darkness; just check the trail of bodies they've left behind in this year alone.

Ok, I haven't smoke anything anymore for nearly a year. I stopped smoking cigarettes four years ago. I recently quit drinking, and I still don't see your point. So that kills your ad-homniem attack right there.

He was killed by prescription drugs. Period. End of story. Stop trying to blame illegal drugs for big pharma's screw ups. Prescription drugs have killed more people than cannabis ever will.

The problem is people think since prescription drugs are legal, then it safer to use them. It's not, not even by a long-shot. The funny thing is that you're using the "gateway drug" propaganda crap everyone else anti-drug uses and has been dis-proven over and over and over again.

Tell you what: Go buy an ounce of weed and smoke it. Not all at once, though. See if you want to try crack after that. I guarantee you all you'll want to do is sit down in front of a TV and eat a cheeseburger. That's about how harmless it is.

It's not my fault you don't like it because it's not "Rush's Pill-Popper" special.

Enlighten me on how you smoke too much weed? And that this action indefinitely "fucks up your life"?

BTW, alcohol is a drug too, and people use it to escape reality with deadly results. Caffeine's a drug too. Hope you don't drink alcohol or coffee.

Face it, whether consciously or not, we all take drugs and possibly do it several times a day. Are you going to ban every drug or just the ones you don't like?

And you know what? I don't feel like I HAVE TO SMOKE WEED. Never did. I didn't get sick and steal for weed money, or perform sexual acts because of a need to get high. Because there WAS NO ADDICTION. You haven't even TRIED any drugs, yet you talk as if you're an expert. YOU'RE NOT EVEN CLOSE. And you still fail. I stopped because I was looking for work, and did not want to fail a drug test. I continue not to smoke not out of fearing a drug test but by personal preference. The fact you think I quit simply because I was "going to be tested" is a base assumption on your part.

What you don't want to admit is that I transcend your notion of addiction, because I quit cold turkey. No rehab, no patches, no 12-step program. If I didn't want to stop, then I WOULDN'T have stopped.

Oh, and thanks for the vote of confidence, because I WILL make something of myself. However, whether or not I smoke or smoked weed will make no difference as to what I will achieve. Good luck doing whatever it is you do besides troll Current.

Haim abused prescription drugs. I'm sure he used and abused other drugs as well.

People use cannabis. You demonize them as if they abuse it, as to how you can "abuse" such a non-toxic substance is beyond me.

Therefore, I have more experience with the drug.

For 10 months? You're seriously reaching for that one. So I guess I'm waiting for the right moment to "smoke my ass off". I'm not planning on smoking again for a while yet, because of people like you who think I can't do it in my personal time and be successful. So I'll become successful and then do whatever I damn well please.

BTW, I didn't even get drug tested for my job, and still haven't picked up anything to smoke. You fail at assumptions ONCE AGAIN.

I have a JOB and paying taxes as well, so I'm "leeching" off my own tax dollars as well. You also fail to mention that I have to PAY BACK MY STUDENT LOANS, so in reality I'm not leaching off anyone; I'm borrowing the money, hence why it's called a LOAN.
Sorry I didn't have a silver spoon shoved up my ass like you did, or maybe my parents would have paid for school. I come from a working class family, how else am I supposed to pay for classes? You gonna do it? Yeah, I didn't think so.

No, you haven't seen morons that act like me, because I'm not a moron. I got a 4.0 GPA, and I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon. I'm getting excellent grades because I'm not a failure as you would believe. You keep on trying to find a box to fit me in an I'll step right out of it every single time. BTW, that "loser who blames everything on everyone else" story sounds familiar... guess it must be personal, huh?

You can believe I'll make something out of myself, but I will NOT stop promoting something I believe in, and whether or not you approve is irrelevant to me. Also, I never promoted drug use, just cannabis use. The only thing I mentioned was cannabis, not drugs at all. Nothing in the world will stop me from advocating cannabis use.
