Green Zone -- Bourne again with a message

At its simplest, “Green Zone” is a Bourne movie set in Iraq.
It stars Matt Damon. It’s directed by Paul Greengrass, who helmed the last two Bourne films. And it features lengthy examples of Greengrass’ favorite herky-jerky camera techniques (almost to the point of sea sickness) to indicate action.
But this isn’t just about another Robert Ludlum superhero. While it is fiction, it was inspired by Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s best selling non-fiction book, Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone, and tackles a number of serious issues.

What makes the film especially satisfying is that it doesn’t sacrifice the pulse-pounding excitement and entertainment value to make its points. The end product is something that will be enjoyed in states of every hue.

Matt Damon has taken on the mantle of the industry’s rugged action hero -- and whether he’s playing a super spy with amnesia, a rugged rugby player or a CWO, he wears it well. He is the man all of us wanted to be before reality set in.
