The studio are examining two ideas, one will be light-hearted and produced by Temper Hill, the other slightly darker and focused on Dorothy's granddaughter fights evil in Oz which will be screen-written by Josh Olson.

The books are wacky good fun. A remake totally refocused on the original material,...rather than a remake of the cinematic predecessor could be fresh and surprising. Just dont let Burton do it,....Burton gets to do EVERYTHING fun.
( Besides,...then it will look more like "Burtonwurld" than anything else. )
Something that REALLY invoked the style of the original illustrations would be kewl indeed.Damn,......that might STILL be Burton. The man is hard to dodge.

RE: BKsaysAction
yes, leigh scott worked for a few years with the asylum, where the shoots were MAYBE $3,000 with a 9-day shooting schedule... story dictated by the producers. this was straight out of film school, so one could consider it more like grad school. point is, imagine that paper you wrote in college -- you know, the one that you tried your best to power through, but due to no sleep and top ramen it just wasn't the best? imagine that paper sitting on the shelves of blockbuster for everyone to see. brutal.
leigh has an eye for detail, even if it's difficult to perceive through the muddy dialogue and cheesy story, which is why this movie is going to rock...
it's finally funded correctly, with a real cast.why not root for the underdog? especially as studios run around and remake hollywood classics with zac efron and the likes... CHRISTOPHER LLOYD as the wizard, MIA SARA, BILLY BOYD. Comeon, the actors alone ensure that it won't be TOO bad.

The best remake so far has to be the classic..."The Wiz" with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. It was a musical like the original film but followed the story of the book more making it darker, also it was made from the (then) contemporary POV of a Black Dorothy and all Black cast.
If you haven't seen it check out the trailer then find the film on one of the streaming sites. - 1 year ago

Rofl, I hope you guys know Leigh Scott has been in the "remake" straight to video buisness for several years now. You may have seen his hit films like Pirates of treasure island, Dragon, The Hillside Cannibals, The Hitchiker, Transmorphers, and King of the Lost world.

she's right! go look at the IMDB synopsis... this one isn't a remake.
it PICKS UP where we left off!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1592287/that seems kinda cool, right? what's dorothy doing now, was it all really a dream? what if the world she's grown up with isn't so simple...
plus christopher lloyd as the wizard? SWEET.

damn unoriginality of the "reboot" concept!
no one wants to see some new fancy version of this, nothing is like the original, i mean hell it's on blu-ray! that's updated enough.

So is it going to explain things like why the tin man is tin (no one dies in the world of oz and its surrounding territories) or about the queen who cuts girls heads off so she can wear a new one everyday? There's some pretty weird things in the series of 16 books!

I think Terry Gilliam would be a good choice if they had to remake it, but actually base it on the original books by L. Frank Baum. Don't make it a musical like the original. That film is in a league of it's own.

I hate remakes of classics. And this one will most likely fail, UNLESS it's directed and produced like nothing we've ever seen before. (ie. Alice in Wonderland)
But if I'd have to vote .. I'd say go for the slightly darker take on it. May be interesting?
