Some might call Super Mario Bros. movie a complete disaster. Technically, those people are right, but that doesn't mean Super Mario Bros. wasn't an super awesome movie that desperately deserves a proper sequel. Nintendo's experience with that one, however, seemed to sour the company's relationship with Hollywood, stopping Nintendo franchises from making the jump ever since.
Nintendo says Hollywood still comes knocking "all time time," though.
"The message is 'thank you for the interest," said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in a brief interview with the Los Angeles Times.
"There have been certain [people] that we have talked in more detail with. But I think in the end, because we are a content company and are passionate about our franchises, it will be few and far between that actual deals are done to bring our franchises to life in a different way. These are our children."
Fils-Aime doesn't seem to rule out the possibility that Mario, Zelda and others could make be made into a Hollywood production eventually. Hmm, I wonder who those "certain people" are he spoke of?
