KICK-ASS ~ DOES ~

( a good review )
Note,....Kick-Ass is not just for kids! ( In fact,....its NOT for kids at all,...at least not the tots )
APPARENTLY there was a "PROFANITY" controversy,.....ooooooooohhhhh
When I heard that a movie of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s comic Kick-Ass was on its way, I decided that – for once – I’d avoid reading the source material until I’d seen the film.
I had a theory that Mark Millar’s stories would benefit enormously from quick edits and pop music. That cinema would maybe boost the good qualities of his writing (great concepts, snappy one-liners, black comedy) and cover some of its flaws (the sometimes shoddy execution of those concepts, or the way he can seem to get bored halfway through his own stories).
My review? Well, you might have heard that Kick-Ass is the story of what happens when a powerless nobody decides to become a superhero in the real world. Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Kick-Ass, however, isn’t. It’s actually about what happens when a powerless nobody decides to become a superhero… and then meets some real superheroes already out there.
The movie’s definitely a success – certainly more than Vaughn’s only fitfully charming version of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. The action scenes are smart and inventive, especially considering the film’s semi-limited budget; they recreate the sense of John Romita Jr.’s art without being slavishly faithful to it like Zack Snyder’s Watchmen worship. Bursts of violence wrung at least three bursts of spontaneous applause from my audience.

Another good review,..not my personal take...,...but hey,...my inclination is; "read ALL the reviews you can on this film; this will be a classic.
p.s. not sure what a "Carry Grant" ref has to do with this,...other than "X" is expected from "name brand" stars........

Hi, remanns,
"Cary Grant" was in response to Larry's comment that KICK-ASS reminded him of screwball comedies. Cary Grant & Katherine Hepburn starred in the classic screwball comedy, BRINGING UP BABY. Just was jibing Larry by trying to fit two screwball icons into the KICK-ASS scenario. Otherwise no connection (but BABY is a fantastically funny film to check out, if you haven't already).

Much thanx. Got it. The "screw ball comedy" just doesn't work for me as a "sub category" to start a comparison;
somewhere in the midst of:
"Watchmen",..."Repo-Man" (the original,...not "Men"),...."Natural Born Killers",... "Buckaroo Banzai",.."Down and Out in Beverly Hills" and "Magnolia". stands this work.standing by that.

Another 2 bits from io9-
http://io9.com/5518464/kick+ass-knows-superhero-fans-are-masochists?skyline=true..."There are really two kinds of action movies — ones which live up to their trailers, and ones which don't. Kick-Ass lives up to its trailers. If you watched the trailer or the ads on TV and thought it would be fun to watch an eleven-year-old girl say "cunt" and kill tons of people who vaguely deserve it, then you'll enjoy this film. (If you watched the trailers and felt disgusted or bored, then... well, duh.)"

Its funny how Hit Girl stole the show.... She was awesome and who everyone is talking about and rightly so. She is what made the show unique and badass.
When she impaled the hooker.... haha awesome! - 2 years ago

Alright what better movie to illustrate to your adolescent how to be a smart ass, psychotic, vigilante......
Just when you're kid starts acting like an obnoxious prick shortly after seeing it, and snitches you out to the school resource officer for smoking a bowl (I know it was past his bedtime, but he had to potty... again), I don't want to hear about it.
two thumbs way down for teaching children how to be ignorant smart asses....., oh and potential vigilante snitches...

R-ratings mean not intended for children under the age of 17 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
So that pretty much throws that association out the window...

It was pretty good. Enjoyable, humorous at times, and filled with action. Perhaps I was expecting something different, and was taken aback by Hit-Girl mercilessly slaughtering a whole bunch of people. But overall, I think it was a good movie. Would watch a sequel.
