Frank Frazetta, an illustrator whose vivid colors and striking brushstrokes conjured up fantastic worlds of musclebound heroes fighting with broad swords and battle axes to defend helpless women from horrible beasts, died on Monday in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 82.
The death, caused by a stroke, was confirmed by Rob Pistella and Steve Ferzoco, his business managers. In a telephone interview, Mr. Pistella said that Mr. Frazetta, who had a history of strokes, had returned from a Mother’s Day dinner with his family on Sunday night and complained of feeling ill. Emergency medical services were called and Mr. Frazetta was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
After working on daily comic strips like “Buck Rogers,” “Flash Gordon” and “Li’l Abner,” Mr. Frazetta moved onto comic books in the 1950s. He drew the movie poster for “What’s New Pussycat?” in 1964, and hit his stride executing detailed illustrations of pulp heroes like Conan the Barbarian and John Carter of Mars for their comic magazines and books.

I loved his drawings. I had quite a few framed examples in my apartment in the 70's. Marriage ended that collection.

I still have 2 prints nicely mounted and preserved. I even managed to protect them from the berserker viking red head ex of mine! I am sorry to hear of your loss.
( But it sounds like you preserved the wife....) - 2 years ago

I have some of his illustrations depicting Conan the Barbarian
on large Chromuim promo cards from the early 1990s. And
yet more illustrations featured in Non Sport Update magazine
for card collectors. People like himself and Ralph McQuarrie
helped comic collectors diverge into card collecting. ^ed it. - 2 years ago

Hey thanks for posting this remanns. Sorry I did not find it earlier I have been kind of busy around the house and have not spent as much time online as I would want. Man I grew up reading and looking at his work. Just the fact that you could spend all day looking deep into his work was amazieng. his nack for drawing women is like no other and his demonds I can't put it into words it just so real as if it could come for you right off the page. Man i miss those days when all I had to do was read an I could be tranported in to another world.
