The story of the world’s oldest Kink/Fetish competition, the INTERNATIONAL MR. LEATHER contest. And after 30 years, it’s not just a “gay white male” event anymore!
Chicago’s first Leather bar’s opening in the 1950’s; Leathermen confronting the AIDS crisis of the 80’s; Religious intolerance and legal hostility; The difference between BDSM and Abu Ghriab - it’s all explored in a film that’s fascinating, sexy, provocative, funny and surprisingly moving.
The contestants are as extraordinary as they are common people. There’s Don SIR representing the embrace of gay Leather traditions by the straight world. Hunter, the senior who’s lost all his peers to AIDS. And Richard, who wins the crowd over from his wheelchair.
And behind it all is IML founder Chuck Renslow, a man who saw the need for a place where sexual outcasts could gather and celebrate among their kinky family.
Maybe there’s a little Kink Crusader inside all of us.
