Splice-not your average sci fi horror movie

Two young biotech scientists /lovers named Elsa and Clive are successful in splicing animal DNA to create hybrids. So successful that they think the pharmaceutical company they work for will support their splicing of human DNA with animal DNA, but are surprised when turned down and shut down. They then go out on their own (morseo Elsa than Clive, who questions the morality of it) against all legal and moral boundaries in successfully splicing their DNA with animal DNA and creating what they at first believe (Elsa much more than Clive who in the beginning wants to kill it) will be the key to all they have dreamed of. Then the dream turns into a nightmare and the evolution of "Dren" turns violent and bloody once unleashed on the outside world, taking a turn that shows what happens when you cross the line with no regard for the consequences.
And apart from this, the interplay with the characters and the relationship with their creation as well as how it evolves upon learning and growing ( and not for the better) is also worth noting in this movie as a question about the influence of not only DNA but environment.
It gives you something to think about, especially regarding where science is today and the moral implications of where it is going. As someone who reads about this, is concerned about it, and reports on it regarding GMOS, this movie did not lose credibility because the science in it is actually reality. They have already created "synthetic" life in a test tube, cloned, and have been serving up genetically engineered seeds that have proven that once unleashed their effects cannot be called back.
The warning here is clear; Carelessly playing god with nature will always come back to bite you on the a88. I give it seven out of ten stars and recommend it if you are into sci-fi, and won't be too freaked out by the unorthodox sex scenes ( will not give that away.) Splice is not your average horror blood and gore movie and the acting in it is bellievable. It will not only quench your thirst for sci-fi it will have you questioning the limitations of science on the natural world and the implications of crossing the line.

It was trying to be the new Species, but it fell short.
It had the potential to be awesome and might have been with a better script and more money but it overall kinda sucked.

I saw this yesterday and was quite pleased with about 80 percent of it. But in my opinion if it would have gone really any other direction in the last 20 mins or so it would have probably been one of my all time favorites. Worth seeing. So much promise but kind of a let down.

Exactly! It started off good and just... failed by the end.

I admit the ending could have been better, but the overall message was relevant.

Science does indeed need it's safeguards. Perhaps "splicing" should be shelved, right next to the neutron bomb.

Nah. I want my augments n genetic grafts n such ! ( Not that I will be in the income bracket to afford "designgeneeric fashions and accessories"
Hmmmmm,...DNAsigners,......Gengeneers,....Regeners,...Genecoders,...
or perhaps a more urban/retro DJ Franks,...Spliceboys,...more like "Burger King"---Helixhelp,...or The Genstop

Story from a few years ago:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-444436/Now-scientists-create-sheep-thats...
"Now scientists create a sheep that's 15% human"
It's not only safe, it will save lives. If you can grow human organs inside animals like pigs, etc. The movie is just a silly shitty fantasy psychological genetic thriller to say "but what if". Shit like that would never happen in real life.

Sounds like a common videogame plot to me.

Yepper,.... ....it rather reminds me of a book I once read,.....hmmm,....what was it,.....Oh yes,....Frankenstein. Mans' moral, creative, and scientific dominion- dilemma seems to have some persistent metaphors and tropes ! ( The creature features have been changed to protect the innocent until proven guilty. )

Sure is. Good special effects. And not to give too much away, but despite the creepiness factor it is interesting to see Elsa look beyond that when mothering it and being so naive as to what she actually created.
