The first thing you need know is that “The Killer Inside Me” is violent. It goes beyond normal movie violence. This is pornographic violence: a man beating two women to a pulp, leaving them for dead. This is there’s-no-excuse-for-it violence, it-serves-no-purpose violence.
How the film escaped with an “R” rating is beyond reason. The movie is based on a novel of the same name by Jim Thompson, so one anticipates a certain noir feeling. But this is beyond noir. This is midnight on a moonless, foggy and cloud-covered night. There is no light here.
