More Stephen Sondheim, today West Side Story, the history and recordings

Arthur Laurents, a very difficult man to please, has, I would say rather unreasonably, disliked all previous productions of West Side Story, from the original to the film to the 1980 revival. In 2007, he had an epiphany: "I've come up with a way of doing it that will make it absolutely contemporary without changing a word or a note." Laurents had decided to update his original libretto with the introduction of Spanish lyrics and dialogue.
