“Eat Pray Love” is a woman’s book. I know this because when I began to read it to prepare for the film I started to grow breasts. Two chapters later I was menstruating.
“Eat Pray Love,” the film based on the book, did less damage to my testosterone level -- but not much less. It stars Julia Roberts and sadly does nothing to reverse her downward career spiral -- a series of disappointing appearances in mediocre films: “Valentine’s Day,” “Duplicity” and “Closer,” among them.
She plays the book’s author, Liz Gilbert, a woman on a downward spiral herself, who goes on a journey of self-discovery.
