Jabal, thank you for the courage to put this out there. The wording fits the dialog of the footage well. Those who disagree I think you all are entitled to your opinions but you're off base for the attacks on the storyline and definition of the subject presented. The term gang fits "a number of persons associated for a particular purpose" the police underbelly of self-crime. I applaud the person for their view and work on this piece. I wish you continued success and more interesting coverage to come. Thank you for sharing and don't let the neysayers sway you. Your presentation hit it's mark and has opened discussion on the matter. Thank you again.

Then wouldn't it be the US military? With all the civilians we kill, for a purpose so obscure, by means so inhuman (drones and whatnot)...
Also, you guys should watch the documentary Lisa Ling hosted about the gang called MS 13: http://www.apfn.org/apfn/ms-13.htm. That's a street gang that kills to live; death in lieu of discharge.
One may find many horrible things police have done, but one can find the many honorable acts they have achieved as well. It all depends on where you're looking at and what you are looking for. Can someone show me any information that shows MS 13 doing honorable acts? (Not the ex-gang members.)
No doubt some police succumb to emotion and end up doing some dumb shit. It doesn't help that they wear a uniform symbolic of power. The standford prison experiment illustrates how nearly anyone is capable of preforming evil acts. That police act on their feelings alludes to one, the innate imperfection of humans, and two, the lack of training needed to subdue anger that can potentially manifest into physical violence. - 1 year ago

The way you presented yourself.. saying at once "with all due respect Chrissy" yet in reality telling me to "Get the F$@# outta here with that BullS@#$@" is a prime illustration that shows how it is difficult for humans, innately, to subdue their anger. Your comment parallels the actions of the police portrayed in this documentary quite well.
Also, I don't know if you have heard about it, but you should read about speech act theory. To command me to "Get the F$@# outta here with that BullS@#$@" is a kind of violence that also has harmful effects. Just as the police need to be careful about what they do, one should be careful of what they say.
Your comment is also pretty discriminatory and flat out disrespectful.

There is nothing more scarier than a gang who doesnt fear Repercussion. these so called "Hardcore" gangs you speak of will end up dead or in jail. Not retired with a fat A## pension. Look up those cops that whooped Rodney king A## and tell me where there at. you said No doubt some police succumb to emotion and end up doing some dumb shit?????? Dumb shit??? what happened to Sean Bell was not some dumb shit. you said it as if they were some street punks who spray painted a wall. o' well Sean bell's widow lost her husband through some "dumb Shit". First off, in that sense, the US military is far more scarier than the police. Who would use the most inhumane (drones, predators, and whatnot) means to kill their "enemy" (many of whom end up being civilians anyway... thank god for wikileaks.) Who in the world funds these kinds of missions? US citizens...humans.
It's the lucifer effect. Have you heard of the standford prison experiment?
In fact, far worse than the police, are the owners of the country.
A scary gang? Monsanto.
Why? Because their actions affect us in ways so monumental that we don't even notice. How frightening is that? A slow and painfully unforeseeable death.
At least when you get shot fifty millions times, you die instantly (hopefully).
But to live and struggle, day in and day out, to have to mentally murder yourself only to survive one day, hoping to see even a glimpse of some light.... man.
MS 13 is scary, Monsanto scary. I still live life.
Police? I'm sure scary as hell in certain situations, no doubt. Also some of the sweetest people who genuinely care for the public's safety.
Gangs are assumptions, generalizations, they strip away the individuality of a person and clump him/her together in one big group.
If you are that truly afraid of the policemen and women who lay down their lives, you should probably start talking to them on an individual level. Get to know them. Don't judge an individual based on their gang affiliation. That's how we break down barriers, combat the rubbish that surrounds stereotypes.
"I don't like ass kissers, flag wavers or team players. I like people who buck the system. Individualists. I often warn people: "Somewhere along the way, someone is going to tell you, 'There is no "I" in team.' What you should tell them is, 'Maybe not. But there is an "I" in independence, individuality and integrity.'" Avoid teams at all cost. Keep your circle small. Never join a group that has a name. If they say, "We're the So-and-Sos," take a walk. And if, somehow, you must join, if it's unavoidable, such as a union or a trade association, go ahead and join. But don't participate; it will be your death. And if they tell you you're not a team player, congratulate them on being observant....No matter how you care to define it, I do not identify with the local group. Planet, species, race, nation, state, religion, party, union, club, association, neighborhood improvement committee; I have no interest in any of it. I love and treasure individuals as I meet them, I loathe and despise the groups they identify with and belong to" --George Carlin

I would wager to say that most of you all watching this video will/have never come into contact with Police. The Police deal with that 5% of the population that you/we never come into contact with. The "Losers" of society. I believe most cops come into their profession thinking that they can make a positive impact on that 5% of society. In reality that 5% that makes up 98% of their contact with society, completely subverting their "View" of the world. Changing their "mission" to just "surviving". A few bad cops have made it so that all cops have to wear bullet proof vests to work. Who would want that job? Trust me, the videos DON'T tell the whole story. BUT, it sure doesn't make me like them. Never did. Never will.

I keep wondering if the psychological tests may need some tweaking. No all police are bad, but the ones that are are usually really, really bad. It is an occupation that attracts sadists and control freaks much like the preisthood attracts pedophiles. It is a perfect cover for misdeeds. The disciplinary process is extremely flawed. This is very sad but there will be no shortage of this kind of documented abuse in the age of a camera in almost every phone.

Everyone needs to know the laws that govern them. I actively search for all laws governing me from local to federal to know my limits. For instance, I have taken up photography and know that if you are photographing cops and their activities from public space, it takes a court order for the officer to take your camera. If they take it from you, they are liable for theft of personal property. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

I think a lot of this video is valid, but the whole part about complaints should have been approached better. While there's not really a reason for the officers to become SO confrontational when the person refuses to give their name, it would be interesting to see how they reacted to different demographics of people requesting the form, and varying levels of cooperation.
I think a lot of the people represented are naturally suspicious (which they have a right to be), but I don't think that it shows a complete picture of what things are like because it neglects to give the officers the best possible scenario (complete cooperation), and allow them to react accordingly.
I would be interested at what would happen if kids went in requesting a complaint form for a 'school project,' with and without their parents, and whether they would get the same response or if officers would be more forthcoming.

it doesn't matter what you look like or what demographic you fit into I should be able to walk down to any police station and get a complaint form without showing I.D or having to discuss the matter with another officer. Better yet these complaint forms should be available in a box outside police stations and city hall just like newspapers are. If I want to file a complaint it isn't any police officers business who I am, who the complaint is about, or what happened

Some people are corrupt and some people have anger issues. These people are in every profession and the percentage of law enforcement officers who are are corrupt or easily angered is not any higher than in any other profession. How these attributes manifest themselves vary according to profession. An angry fast food worker might spit in the food, or even start fights with customers, while a corrupt fast food worker may steal food or money. This is a human psychological issue, not a cop issue. The fact is that for every "bad" cop shown in these videos, there are hundreds of "good" cops not shown. Furthermore, the video is framed in the context the creator wants us to see.

Clearly this is the "largest" street gang. Ninety percent of the cops in the videos could be foiled just by running up 2 flights of stairs. No wonder they strong arm and taser, they clearly don't like to chase to people.

I think the problem with many police departments in general is they have a strong belief that they need to make strong decisions on the ground to help keep people safe. They over inflate their sense of justice and believe that only they (police officers) are capable of making the decisions because they have the self righteous and just cause. What happens is cops forget they are not elected officials they are hired employees. They also forget that stupid videos like this aren't proactive they are reactive. These kinds of things aren't all that common but police officers have to be aware of what their role is not waht their opinions are.

What I feel it shows is that it doesnt matter if your a cop a citizen or a criminal. These clips show cops as the criminals and sometimes they are acting just as that. There is no respect for human life anymore. They are showing that we might as well stay locked up at home-and not answer the door if they dont have a warrant. It makes you scared to even walk down the street when you see this. I have kids of my own and I am pretty sure if the images above where of my kids I would be sitting in a jail cell for what I did to the cop. There is no excuse for a cop to choke a kid, or well any of what they did in that video. They are meant to bring peace not create more violence. It makes you see why these kids grow up to wind up behind bars--They are retaliating against what they see as a threat to themselves or others and I agree with it. If I was being treated like this I would retaliate and fight back and wind up behind bars but would not keep my mouth shut about it.

all this could be much better regulated, controlled and checked if all cops had to wear a camera with video and audio recording or live feed to the station. they pioneered that a few months back here in the uk. this tech should be adopted across the country.

as long as the court system is protecting their vile behavior and refusing to treat criminal behavior coming from police officers as criminal behavior, it won't matter how much video/audio feed we have.
What IS going to happen, if the Federal government doesn't reign this shit in, is that normal, peace-loving, law-abiding citizens are going to turn on the police in some horrific incident, and our Federal government will no longer be able to ignore what is going on or pretend that it isn't happening. People will only stand back for so long, and then they are going to do what they have to do to make it stop.

I can't stand the police.
I have not seen one upstanding citizen on any police force. They should be setting a good example, especially if they think they're better than the rest of us. As far as I'm concerned, they're no better than anyone else, yet they act as though they're above the law.
I've never met a police officer who even seemed like a decent human being.
I used to be interested in the law enforcement career path (in the forensic science area), until I took a ride along and helped catch people running stop signs. I pointed someone out who clearly ran the stop, he pulled her over and let her go because (I'll never forget this) "She isn't the kind of person we're looking for" (She was an old white lady, I didn't even see, it was pitch black out) "she could be my mom."
I don't care! The law applies to everyone the same! If you're gonna let her go, you have to let everyone go. If you're going to give other people tickets for less, you have to be fair to everyone. I've had no respect for the law in this country ever since. Especially because I've got 2 complete B.S. tickets (one where the person in front of me pulled over and was waved ahead, I assume because their license plate matched the state we were in). I've also been in a situation where my friends were robbed/jumped and the police immediately accused them of being on drugs, which they were not! I could write a dissertation on how disgusting I find law enforcement in this country.

Careers I've thoroughly looked into and some which I will pursue include, Paramedic, Firefighter, Cavalry Scout-Army, Clandestine Agent-CIA, Field Agent-DEA; but never have I wanted to be a police officer. I can't even describe what it is about the profession but I would never want to do it and I can't really be too hard on people who will do I job I won't, it just seems like a shitty job, for lack of a better description.

but it wasn't always the way it is now. It has gotten SO much worse since 911, and I had a brief conversation with a police officer a couple of years ago about all the changes brought about by the Patriot Act, and I don't think Congress gives a damn, because they are rarely the victims of their own bad decisions, but the communication to police forces around the US that came from that legislation drastically changed the way police began relating to citizens and crime. When you are advocating and training the boy scouts, school children and average citizens to "be alert and report suspicious behavior" all the damn time, tell me we aren't living in a police state. Innocent until proven guilty completely disappeared with the Patriot Act, and ultimately, I hold Congress, as well as the Obama administration responsible for NOT protecting the citizenry.
They have taken power away from the people, and put it in the hands of law enforcement. The word public servant has become a joke.

Well to be honest there really isnt a way to fix this problem. Psychologically speaking when humans are put in a position of authority over one another it generally brings out the worst humanity has to offer(corruption, brutality, violence,etc.). The only thing that can be done is for people to remain vigilant and to expose police brutality when they see it.

Usually, the city stands behind this blatant brutality. These @ssholes rarely lose their job, much less prosecuted. The City of Denver is infamous for this.

I'm not sure how I feel about this video. I can agree, a lot of people join the police, and they happen to think they are above the law, however there are always bad apples in any profession. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the police is a street gang, but I will admit that there are some problems in the system. We must also remember that there are some honest people who become cops.

There are bad apples in every profession, but some professions wield guns and authority. Unfortunately, the only people capable of policing the police (the court system) seem to be somewhat flawed.
Though I agree, we cannot lump all officers into the bad cop category.
Every police officer should be forced to have a shotgun (long dist.) microphone and camera on their weapon, as well as one of each on their shoulder/hat/helmet, whatever. This video/sound footage should then be processed from a govt branch outside the immediate police department. It wouldn't be hard, and police officers would still react instinctively to present threats without hesitation. They'll get the hang of knowing what they're capable of doing and not doing in front of a camera. It's the only way big brother can watch big brother.
When you go into police academy, you have to make peace with the fact that everybody hates you; even if the person DID do something wrong. With that in mind, you have to be able to control your emotions, or you're just not up to the job. It's dirty work, but a police officer is not in a position to reciprocate hate.

The position of police, with the power of life and death, means that it will attract those who want such power. And no one who wants that power should ever have it.

If I work selling my bosses peanuts, and I sell more peanuts then my coworkers, I will get the raise and promotion. Same principle. More busts, more points, more raises, more promotions.
This system also caters to bullies that like nothing more then to get away with cracking heads and getting raises for it.
Add the frat mentality of the cops, the fear of being unprotected by a crooked partner or colleague, and the additional frustration and disillusionment from the riggers of the job, and one can be changed into a heartless monster.
I have known good cops, many cops are good, but how do they struggle against a system that will literally kill them if they protest against bad cops?
We need to somehow change the system so the rewards of police duty, higher wages and positions, are in no way tied to your number of busts.
There is also a fact I learned in Abnormal Psychology. The three most common jobs for a psychopath are criminals, lawyers, and cops. Every person applying to be a cop must be rigorously tested for signs of being a psychopath. If there are any signs, they should never wear a badge. - 1 year ago

Yes indeed. I agree rigorous testing is essential to having a police force that ensures mentally healthy and suitable people are used will go a long way to help people trust and enjoy having them around.
We need to change the system to reward cops for policing each other.

Any jock on any police force at anytime can approach you for no reason and just handcuff you and take you away just because they don't like how you look. Absolutely frightening and outrageous.

You are sooo right! Most jurisdictions have a 72 hour hold, where they can keep you in jail without charge. It is unconstitutional. However, to stop such laws they have to be challenged in court and struck down by a judge. That will not happen with a conservative judge. Also, when one law does get struck down, legislators just introduce and pass three more new bad laws. Then cops can use the new rewritten unconstitutional laws until those laws are struck down.
It all makes for an out of control police state. - 1 year ago
