In a new interview with the Stig (Ben Collins) accused BBC worldwide of revealing his identity first by listing potential names in a Radio Times article two years ago. "but he said the Radio Times unmasking was a turning point: "It caused a huge question over whether I was viable any more." -Independent

In reply to the interview, a BBC spokesperson stated the interview with the accusations were published in a newspaper owned by the same company that owns the books publishers (News Corp). "It seems to have been designed simply to attempt to generate further sales."-Independent

So was this story ever about the Stig? or a brewing conflict between the two groups, which has been fuelled by two Edinburgh speeches.

""Funded by a hypothecated tax, the BBC feels empowered to offer something for everyone, even in areas well served by the market. The scope of its activities and ambitions is chilling."-Guardian

"Thompson also poured scorn on James Murdoch, who used last year's MacTaggart lecture to call the BBC "chilling" in its impact on the commercial sector. One of the biggest laughs of the night came when Thompson mocked the head of News Corp's European operations for attacking the British Library's plan to digitise its newspaper archive."-Guardian
