The OIL economy may colapse, but technology will no longer be based on OIL... New technologies are waiting in the wings...consider whether the collective mind of mankind is fear based and backward thinking...then there are always those intuitive minds that create the new and incredible...look to the rising sun, my friends, not just the setting one...Zeigeist is one tiny blip on the radar screen...

Agreed and thank you very much for pointing that point out. We are not beholden to Peter Joseph or the Venus project. They are incredible ideas and we can draw from them and take what we like and leave the rest. The new world needs to be populated with people who are adaptable and not afraid to self sacrifice for the good of all. There will be no more room for greed and madness for power and the accumulation of mass wealth.
Perhaps in the initial stages...many of us will be struggling to survive in a world turned to anarchy and chaos...who knows....it won't be an instantaneous change...it will take decades to accomplish....but it must begin with everyone agreeing to change their ways, to compromise, and to find consensus.

jubal, you're definitely hitting the nail on the head...also, there may be confusion at first and the power brokers will try to use that to jockey for their ultimate position in the new scheme of things, but if we all gather our wits about us, get organized and remain organized, then the divide and conquer concept will not be effective in pigeon holing us into the same old tired government processes...leaving the wealthy to gain more wealth and the middle class struggling against the same negative forces that make our societies stagnant...then we can move forward, as you proclaim, in a more positve manner...

i tend to be a bit more pessimistic. With an endless war going on, poverty rising to decades levels height, social division greater than anytime in recent history, a shrinking middle class, a coming fossil fuel shortage (oil), and a rise in religious beliefs I personally believe we are in the throws of the decline of western civilization as we know it. Every time through the course of history when the confluence of events unfolded as they are today, dark times emerged. It does not happen quickley, it happens over a period of decades or a couple of centuries but the paralells are unequivocable and any person who has studied history and past empires or civilizations cannot dispute those findings. We as a race are coming very close to the precipice from which with the wrong step there may be no turning back. Now although this is not positive, it should also be noted through history those who warned of collapse were laughed off or dismissed were in the end found to have warranted their concerns. I hope I am wrong, but I do not think so. Selflessness is non existint, humility is in short supply, admission of wrong decisions is a dream. Without honesty, you can fill in the blanks

I definitely heard Michael Ruppert's voice in the Zeitgeist trailer! I've been posting the trailer to "Collapse" since I watched it a week ago. Everyone needs to watch it. Here is the synopsis from the Collapse site:
Americans generally like to hear good news. They like to believe that a new president will right old wrongs, that clean energy will replace dirty oil and that fresh thinking will set the economy straight. American pundits tend to restrain their pessimism and hope for the best. But is anyone prepared for the worst?
Meet Michael Ruppert, a different kind of American. A former Los Angeles police officer turned independent reporter, he predicted the current financial crisis in his self-published newsletter, From the Wilderness, at a time when most Wall Street and Washington analysts were still in denial. Director Chris Smith has shown an affinity for outsiders in films like American Movie and The Yes Men. In Collapse, he departs stylistically from his past documentaries by interviewing Ruppert in a format that recalls the work of Errol Morris and Spalding Gray.
Sitting in a room that looks like a bunker, Ruppert recounts his career as a radical thinker and spells out the crises he sees ahead. He draws upon the same news reports and data available to any Internet user, but he applies a unique interpretation. He is especially passionate about the issue of peak oil, the concern raised by scientists since the seventies that the world will eventually run out of fossil fuel. While other experts debate this issue in measured tones, Ruppert doesn't hold back at sounding an alarm, portraying an apocalyptic future. Listening to his rapid flow of opinions, the viewer is likely to question some of the rhetoric as paranoid or deluded, and to sway back and forth on what to make of the extremism. Smith lets viewers form their own judgments.
Collapse also serves as a portrait of a loner. Over the years, Ruppert has stood up for what he believes in despite fierce opposition. He candidly describes the sacrifices and motivators in his life. While other observers analyze details of the economic crisis, Ruppert views it as symptomatic of nothing less than the collapse of industrial civilization itself.

So I just finished Zietgeist 2 and man did it have a major hypocrisy in it. Being that the whole thing is about anti privatization of establishments yet he quotes a ton of Ron Paul who wants to privatize quite a few establishments. Then theres this whole Venus project utopia deal but it doesn't quite answer a major question of mine. If we make a world that is fully automated what will humans do? They say to explore and to discover but yet not every human is going to do that so then I ask the question again what is every human going to do?

Well, I don't care much about one particular person behind the Zeitgeist Movement. I would advise everyone to stay focused on the message and rational arguments made by these films. Wouldn't you at least agree with the case against the profit-based-economic system? Wouldn't you agree that fabricated monetary system is enslaving people to a path of self destruction? So, forgetting Maxwell, what are your thoughts on Jacque Fresco's Venus Project and sustainable development?

I believe that there is a Satan, and this battle that all humans are fighting is a certainly a spiritual one in many ways. That is my belief and I should be entitled to it. Jubal, likewise, should be entitled to his belief that Satan does not exist.
The problem with the Venus Project is that they do not want you to be entitled to your belief, and they have a certain set of beliefs already made for you once you are agree to abide by their narrow set of societal rules. They even admit that if their pre-packaged society is accepted by governments around the world, humanity will be forced to accept it.
I listed to a two hour interview with them, and while a lot of things sound good in theory, their ideas are horribly flawed in many ways. They claimed to have the answers for their detractors, but for me, I was only left with even more questions as they slickly glossed over religion and who would ultimately control this system. Check them out for yourself.

I could hardly watch the first one as it is. It kept going into shit about God and I just didn't find it watchable. Now, I will say the modern day economic problem is obvious. The current policy of Neoliberalism in our Globalized society continues to be embraced and this system only benefits a small group of workers, despite some growth in a new middle class around the world, and the income disparity levels have gone out of control. I don't know if they are also trying to argue that the process of Globalization is a controlled process by a small group of elites which in itself is highly doubtful since Globalization is a natural occurrence in human history as we seek to connect markets for new goods. Neoliberalism isn't sustainable and we do need to find a new economic approach but that will mean changing governments; especially the U.S since they have control of the IMF and the World Bank and therefore means control of the SAP(Structural Adjustment Program) that forces developing nations to adopt Neoliberal policy as they need economic assistance.

This is more than just changing governments. This a new way of thinking and living. Concepts like Liberalism, Conservativism, Socialism, Communism, etc. etc. etc. have all expired their values. The belief that the blame rests on any one political party or a particular institution is to not comprehend the problem at all. The entire system is flawed. The industrial age-profit based economy is unsustainable and self-destructive. Watch the second movie; Zeitgeist Addendum.

Okay well we can't reverse industrialization and large increases in demand for material goods cannot simply be reversed as the rise of an international middle class rises up in places like China and India. Sure, it may be unsustainable but we can make a difference in terms of an intensive system of recycling like in India and we can try to find ways to cut wastefulness but thats an obvious challenge in itself. Sorry if I'm lazy but just give me a quick rundown on the overall solution since I'm very busy at the moment.

Hah... just give you a "quick run down of the solution"... As if any one could be so wise as to have a simple solution to the largest collapse in human history. Your funny. We can't reverse industrialization, just like we can't keep it up for much longer. Middle classes and demand can rise sky high. But, as soon as oil peak nears, and nobody can afford it.. what do you think will happen? There really isn't much time before the industrial-profit-based-system collides with the reality of finite resources. Some would say, the two have already collided. There is no band-aid solution that could ever fix a flawed system.
The human population sky-rocketed just as oil was found to have many uses. What happens when there is no more oil to sustain the people's needs? An enormous amount of people are not prepared for this inevitable collapse. Many people cling to denial as if this ship is too big to sink. Personally, after the material I've gone over, the circumstances I've witnessed, and time to accept the harsh reality, I believe there really isn't much we can do to save the suburbs and those that have been disconnected from nature. There will be the extremely wealthy that will catapult safety nets for themselves and/or their local wealthy community. For the most part, people that know how to live off of local resources and build healthy relationships with their neighbors have a better chance to make it through the tough transitional period we face ( ie rural areas, sustainable communities). That is what this next Zeitgeist movie seems to be focused on, the "Transition".
This clip I post is a trailer of "Collapse". In it Michael Ruppert explains how the signs of this collapse are in our faces, there is no amount of money that will prevent it, and how its not the end of time, but just the end of these times. I heard Michael Ruppert's voice in the Zeitgeist trailer, which makes it even more captivating. The movie "Collapse" is available to download as a torrent or you could stream it from sights such as Stagevu.com. I would press on you to really watch it if you are genuinely interested in giving a chance to someone who really knows what they are talking about.

Yeah, forget all the 9/11 non-sense, lets just deal with the facts. Like the fact that we are diving into the Collapse of the industrial-economic system. Michael Ruppert explains in "Collapse":

I have been getting updates from Peter Joseph and the Zeitgeist movement on a regular basis. This latest addendum to the Zeitgeist film series is going to be the best yet.
SYNOPSIS - Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, by director Peter Joseph, is a
feature length documentary work which will present a case for a needed
transition out of the current socioeconomic monetary paradigm which governs
the entire world society. This subject matter will transcend the issues of
cultural relativism and traditional ideology and move to relate the core,
empirical "life ground" attributes of human and social survival,
extrapolating those immutable natural laws into a new sustainable social
paradigm called a "Resource-Based Economy".THEATRICAL RELEASE - Zeitgeist: Moving Forward is planned to be released in
60+ countries and in 20+ languages starting January 15th 2011. This large
scale release is not associated with any major distributor.DVD/INTERNET RELEASE - This is a non-commercial project, which means it
will be available for free acquisition via internet in both viewing form
and full DVD download. Non-monetary distribution by other parties is also
allowed, but no third party selling of the work is permitted.
ZeitgeistMovingForward.com will have a $5.00 DVD available in mid to late
January. - 2 years ago
