A man tries to recover his son but, thankfully, is thwarted.
In the far future, a man, his wife, and his young son go on vacation using teleportation technology. As soon as they arrive at their destination, there is terrorist attack and the wife is killed. The port is immediately shut down.
Decades later, the son has been murdered (we don’t know the details) and the father discovers that the teleportation machine they used was never used again after the attack. The man develops a scheme to re-create his son from the pattern buffer in the old machine. This is illegal, and access to the machine will require a heist-like operation.
After an exciting film about the father getting the machine, his plot is foiled just as it is about to succeed, and we learn that the son grew up to be a brutal mass-murderer.
If done correctly, the audience is left with the question of whether the boy, after being reconstructed, would have been destined to become the same dangerous man, or if his life would have turned out differently.
