Thanks though I have always been hesitant about becoming a vegan. I am thinking about one day doing so. It would be near about impossible at the moment, though my college offers vegetarian options but it is very limiting.

Yes, it's amazing how "unfriendly" educational institutions still are. I feel for you. Back in the days when I was on the road, there weren't even vegetarian options, and it was really, really tough... but I stuck to it, just the same. Unfortunately, that meant not always getting to eat a well-rounded diet. Don't imagine you can stick to just fruit and vegetables and, besides, if it's prepared by the school, more than likely that the vegetables, at least, have butter in them, that sort of thing. Too bad.

According to Faroese legislation it is also permitted to hunt certain species of small cetaceans other than pilot whales. These include: bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus); Atlantic white-beaked dolphin (Lagenorhynchus albirostris); Atlantic white-sided dolphin (Lagenorhynchus acutus); and harbour porpoise ( Phocaena phocaena).
The hunting of these dolphin species, with the exception of harbour porpoises, is carried out in the same way as the pilot whale hunt.

Færøerne ("The Faroe Islands") are an autonomous group of islands with about 50k people way out in the North Sea. With so few people in such an isolated location for centuries, extreme inbreeding and bizarre customs are bound to occur. Their annual slaughter of pilot whales is just as appalling to the people of Denmark as to the rest of the world. This is not what Denmark is about.
Though the Faroe people share our queen and foreign policy, they are completely autonomous otherwise, so here in Denmark we can't do anything about their disgusting whale killing ritual. - 1 year ago

I do agree that the way the dolphins are killed here are EXTREMELY brutal. I would never do that to an animal. When I take down the cattle or hogs its with one shot and its all over.

1. I think it is more correct to say, "Many First World people eat beef." But a huge portion of the world's population doesn't.
2. There are more people outside of the USA that have entirely different cultural practices.
3. Cutting meat consumption from your diet is one small decision that you can make in your own life, that makes a huge impact in the world.
Here's a brief list of things about it:

Cant say I would ever eat that type of meat. after going to the slaughter house in the states hauling meat I became a VEG for 3 years or so. Now I buy the cow as a calf raise it and then yes do the deed but I do it as humanely as possible and as quickly. I know how my cow is treated and they have a much better life than any meat ever bought in the stores. I guess I try to make myself feel better thinking that way.

I've been a vegetarian for three years now and I've been toying with the idea of becoming a vegan for the last year or so. It's tricky though, because nowadays, everything has a topping of cheese or some kind of dairy ingredient in it. ...And my shameful infatuation with chocolate doesn't help, either.

Yeah, sure! Let me see what I can think of from right off the top of my head...
What I did when I decided to become a vegetarian was, I sort of eased into the vegetarian diet. What I mean is, every two weeks, I took a different kind of meat item out of my diet. For example, the first fortnight I stopped eating beef, the second fortnight I stopped eating pork, then fish, then chicken. Doing it this way, I think, takes away the shock of a sudden major diet change and it gives you a better chance of sticking with your vegetarian diet in the long run.
After that, I guess it's just about a bit of will power and self-restraint. Oh, and you've got to try substitute meat products! It comes in handy when you've just got to have something meat-like. Every now and then, I just can't stop thinking about how tasty a chicken salad or a turkey sandwich would be. So, I keep a bit of that stuff on hand in my freezer. And, surprisingly, it really tastes like the real thing! I'd say it could fool the most avid meat-eater in your family. They've got burger patties, ground beef, sausages, hot dogs, lunch meat..
They've also got a ton of really good vegetarian recipes, for the people who aren't as lazy when comes to cooking as I am.
Also important: Eat a good meal before going to a barbeque or any other sort of carnivorous event, haha. And, last but not least...watch a PETA video or two. Those things are horrifying. Traumatising. Just, really... unappetising. Eeeghh.
Good luck, then. :D As for veganism, I couldn't help you there, my attempts at being a vegan flop every single time I'm faced with some kind of cheesy Italian noodle dish or a bit of German chocolate, the most amazing thing on Earth, in my opinion.

I completely agree. The meatless substitutes taste exactly like the real thing. I know some vegetarians say why use meatless substitutes, but I think it is more psychological and they actually taste good. Especially the corn dogs.
Once you ween yourself off meat you don't really miss it at all. The only thing I still crave is some Chick Fil A, but it's still easy to resist.
