Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, by director Peter Joseph, is a feature length documentary work which will present a case for a needed transition out of the current socioeconomic monetary paradigm which governs the entire world society.
This subject matter will transcend the issues of cultural relativism and traditional ideology and move to relate the core, empirical "life ground" attributes of human and social survival, extrapolating those immutable natural laws into a new sustainable social paradigm called a "Resource-Based Economy".
On Jan. 15th, 2011, "Zeitgeist: Moving Forward" was released theatrically to sold out crowds in 60 countries; 31 languages; 295 cities and 341 Venues. It has been noted as the largest non-profit independent film release in history.
This is a non-commercial work and is available online for free viewing and no restrictions apply to uploading/download/posting/linking - as long as no money is exchanged.
A Free DVD Torrent of the full 2 hr and 42 min film in 30 languages is also made available through the main website [below], with instructions on how one can download and burn the movie to DVD themselves. His other films are also freely available in this format.

A question for TZM:
Can you explain the similarities between a centralized artificially intelligent agent and science fiction? There is one of the resources that are in the plan but not available to humanity and the moment.
Are you literally suggesting putting the jeopardy bot in charge?

I felt like I may have been unfair so I decided to detach from Zeitgeist and just read up on the Venus Project alone seeing as it predates Zeitgest by several decades.
I easily came to the conclusion reading through the long list of things required to build this city.
This is a textbook example of a Utopian dream world.

Oldstyle1991:
apparently truth and objectivity still has yet to find it's place in the zeitgeist movement.
I get that it's resource management. It isn't a bad idea.
There is a little problem called the human ego that might get in the way.
How do you account for human spirituality? How about intellectual property, how do people receive credit for their non-resource based assets like an idea or invention? How about the rights of the minority in the face of a majority? How about mental health issues, do we spend resources on therapy and rehabilitation? Is there going to be a venus project army? if not, you may not last long in the event of an international land grab. Will there be security for the elderly so they do not have to physically labor into their old age? If so how do you come to the conclusion of what age?
and lastly...is there enough gain to each individual to justify dedicating your life to? These are permanent problems. You may be able to run away and find a moderate size group that agrees on everything, but, the population will catch up with you.
I think a more important and useful endeavor would be to tackle a big city like Chicago or LA and turn it into a thriving city of the future. This sounds like a lot more work but it also sounds much more rewarding.

I do believe a resource based economy is eventually what will have to be in order to preserve the dwindling resources we have left, particularly regarding water. The current monetary system as it is set up gives an unfair advantage to those who use it in order to subjugate others to hunger, thirst, disease and war in order to profit from them. It also places a false value on products that are dangerous to health but cheaper in order to facilitate corporate advantages over those less fortunate. Access to food and water is a human right that should not be subject to the manmade rules of monetary inequality. However, I tend to look cautiously on systems that go to extremes either way simply because of human nature, but do believe that to keep expecting different results from employing the same tactics with the same systems that keep failing is fruitless and will only lead to an exacerbation of the societal ills we see. Something must change in order for us to survive as a species. It would be wondeful to have a utopian society where equality was truly practiced and where religion and politics did not dictate the fate of so many lives and where nature was truly respected. Perhaps that awakening is not far away.

I advocate for progressive causes and social justice. My single mother was forced to work, she didn't have the luxury of staying home with the kids. I support movements that are doing what it takes to fix the homes and cities we already live in.
How about instead of building a new city why not come back and volunteer to help at home. We can all make a difference if we respect each others right to self determination and advocate for civil rights, worker's right's and protecting the environment through govt. regulation.
This reminds me of the hippies of woodstock, you all seemed to run to the hills and start communes rather than participating in politics and what we got was 30 yrs of reaganomics.
The more of you that run away from our democratic process to go sing Koombaya in the mountains, the less people are involved in the political process that favor the environment, clean drinking water, a minimum wage, an open and free internet, broadband access for all, collecting taxes from multi-billionaires, providing tax relief for small businesses and individuals making less the six figures, converting the military budget money into the health and education budget, etc... the list goes on.
So if your idea of a solution is "I'm gonna run away and start my own city", than you should consider that you are one of thousands of historical groups who did the same thing. This isn't a new idea.

You mean fixing up the cities to house the slaves? Across this nation the people are rapidly losing the ability to pull themselves up by their boot straps. The constant need to repurchase all the shit you use every five to ten years is breaking our ability to progress. Vote for change? Well that might work if the media conveyed the truth, but we all know they don't. Hell they don't even teach the same American history across this country. With education becoming more expensive every year things will not improve.
We need to regroup and restart.

I know how we can solve the world's problems! Let's sit around watch a 6 hour long documentary and than go to our friends house and watch it all over again. Let's not waste our time with silly "get out the vote" efforts or bother giving two cents to support social justice and equal rights.
Let's get this resourced based economy going so I can dead beat and suffer no consequences. Buh-bye Planned Parenthood. Seeya Social Security. Medicare is for old people, I'm not old.
Since we are a resourced based economy we can't let the old people stop working and if they do we can't let them live much longer as they start becoming negative resources. That being said we must lower the worker age to compensate for the lack of resources provided by our young people.
Who needs a computer anyways. It requires too complex of an economy so let's just scrap those. Electricity is overrated. Photosynthesis is really all ya need.

I had a screening with friends the other day and we talked about the movie. It was good... with much higher production value than the previous versions. The interviews were great, and I thought it was well spaced out. Peter Joseph (although I enjoy his philosophical perspective) was better suited to summarizing the points made by the speakers in many parts in my opinion. He didn't spend the entire time talking... most of the movie was devoted to some very excellent interviews with awesome interviewees.
That being said, I think the movie could have used more in-depth information about the specifics of the world as viewed from a resource-based economy perspective. They did go into some detail, and essentially listed the steps needed to progress towards a sustainable system... which was good. I think, overall, it was a great watch for anyone who hasn't seen any of the movies, because some points are reiterated... and I think it's definitely more approachable. It was also made in a way that clears up a lot of issues that people (including myself, even though I'd say I'm a fan of them all) had with the previous movies.
I highly recommend watching it! To those who have seen the previous movies, you'll love it, but expect for some old ground to be re-covered. I think it's a great solution, and skeptics should not shrug this off... but should instead view this movie in the context of a work of philosophy that can definitely be put into practice.
I am growing more confident that "The great turning" is upon us, people. Spread this movie around.

Those of us that are addicted to 'profit' are far more dangerous to society than the alcoholic and drug addicted is. Their addictions are destroying the entire planet and they're being rewarded for it and they are in deep denial in regards to their addictions, never mind that fact that they will kill and destroy entire nations for the sake of profit. You have to create a problem in order to create profit. That's sickening.

I will be completely honest... My one big problem, is that this documentary treats democracy like a failed experiment and I simply do not agree.
Democracy is our best hope and I will not massage any theory that does not make room for the voice of the common man. I may think your vote is a waste, but I will defend your right to have a vote til I die.

I actually had the good fortune of crossing paths with a group of people that were all very animately enthusiastic about Zeitgeist and the Venus Project and very willing to share with me their profound faith in this documentary as a tool for "waking people up" to what was really going on.
The interesting thing was this was in 2007 during the middle of a very heated political campaign and I happened to pay more attention to the C-Span than most people I know, you could call me a C-Span Geek. What I've been seeing is a GOP hell bent on pulling the rug out from under us while simultaneously gauging our democracy from the top via huge corporate tax loop holes and giveaways.
I've also heard great voices like DailyKOS, Thom Hartmann, Rachel Maddow, MoveON.org, Michael Moore, Gleen Greenwald, Bernie Sanders, Dennis Kucinich, Ava's Army, and the list keeps going. People are awake. Take a look in the mirror. Ask yourself who needs to wake up. Because right now we are fighting a rhetorical battle with the corporate fat cats to save a democracy. Please support democratic causes, single payer health care and the progressive party and support your local progressive democrat if you really want to do something. And VOTE!!!

the 'state of the union' next to 'zeitgeist: moving forward' in the news section looks like a joke. how is propaganda like the 'state of the union' relevant? its banal, vacuous rhetoric read by a talking mouth meant to keep the status quo. the government is in place to do nothing more than protect its own power and the power of the individuals that fund it. the few controlling the many.
on a lighter note, the movie was nothing short of incredible and the information it put forward was air-tight. i highly recommend everyone see it, it is well worth your time.

I drove to Gainesville from Jacksonville just this past weekend to watch a special screening, and now here it is, available online. Well, I'm glad it is. I hope everyone keeps the criticism till after they watch the entire film. This is better then the first two because Peter Joseph has had to time develop a better understanding of what the core challenges we face on this planet. Plus, there were so many more people involved in the film, from production to providing interviews. It really is great, though I will say, I found the very ending a bit cheesy.
What is important for everyone to take from this, in my opinion, is that the economies of the world are going to collapse and life as we know it will not continue to thrive in the same conditions. Global commerce is about to choke up. The global power structure is getting re-assessed. The unsustainable economic system is nearing its end, and with it, a desperate generation will snatch every last pinch of money they can from whomever they can, however they can. Mankind needs quit trying to conquer nature and learn to live with it. We can genetically modify every plant and animal, pump out all the resources, build enormous structures, etc, but as long as we are set on a path of making profits instead of progress, then we are setting up a very devastating fall for the future. The industrial revolution, with all of the advancements, caused mankind to stray far away from the laws of nature and distorted our values. The western developed nations think highly of themselves, but they are all about to get reality check now that their make-believe world of a "throwaway planet" is about to burst.
What should we do? Well for now, money still has a great function, so use it wisely. Know where your money is going and what you are really buying. Start aiming for sustainable products and practices. Invest time and energy in bettering your relationship with a community and the planet. Notice I said "a community". By this I mean that you ought to have a community of friends or family in which you can depend on in case the city or town you live in finds itself in a collapse. I hope the best for everyone, but I truly believe we are about to face the most challenging decade of most generations.

Even though human involvement in the management of TVP system is ultimately hoped to be on a volunteer basis, I think the politicians, lawyers, and businessmen have shown us they are inefficient as leaders for our civilization.

Some facts from the original movie were definitely disputable, if not entirely wrong (in part 1: religion). I liked it, personally... but essentially as a work of philosophy and art (peter joseph originally performed it as an art piece and did the drums live). The third installment is WAY more approachable, and is mostly centered around interviews with some very cool people who you might have seen elsewhere. This movie is rooted in logic, and I highly recommend it to those who found the first one too hard to swallow.

So you think politicians (Read: only rich, old, white dudes) should make decisions that effect our air quality based on what is most beneficial for capitalism? Even if politicians WEREN'T corrupt, which they are... they still aren't the ones who should be making decisions best left up to engineers and scientists. Mostly because they are forced to make decisions that support a system based entirely on burning finite resources at an unsustainable rate. Scientists and engineers (in a free thinking society) would be at the whim of logic and general consensus, not money.
The Venus project advocates more for automation and resource management than hierarchical control of society. Even in a technocracy, you would have a higher degree of democracy than we experience today... for the reasons I already listed above... so what's wrong with that? Anyway... all of that aside... the venus project doesn't fall into some category of "isms" or "ocracy"... it's based on an entirely new system of cooperation and interaction. It would probably be closer to "participatory democracy". And when there's enough automation... engineers don't HAVE TO make decisions. In a free society, bureaucracy becomes unnecessary, and becomes a byproduct of a malfunctioning society.
There's no amount of research that one can do to take the place of opening their mind to the possibility of a free society. There is no textbook case upon which to judge "utopia", but rest assured that bureaucracy and hierarchical control, which are BOTH advocated in technocracy... are completely absent from the proposed idea of a resource based economy. Do you not understand that that's the ENTIRE POINT of this system?

No offense! ... and I'm on your side and all (and I also laughed at your comment)... but you catch more flies with honey... knowwhatImean?
I think it's important, as would be in line with a cooperative system... that we all try to be more understanding...

People will line up to volunteer only when the air is too unfit to walk in without a gas mask, and the oceans contain no more life.
Unfortunately for us, but fortunately (?) for some kind of progress.... that day isn't very far away.

Judging by the look of it the Venus crowd has a pretty notable presence here on current.

Easy. Technocracy is the quickest way to have all the political power concentrated to the elite few who possess whatever piece of knowledge or particular resource get's them into these positions of power and influence.
The mistake Technocracy makes is that it assumes that because you have this system in place, politics simply ceases to exist.
My point is that their will be political gamesmanship regardless of political system and there is nothing in technocracy or zeitgeist or the venus project, that prevents a corporate like entity from coming to power and promptly dictating laws as they see fit.
What is great about democracy is never before have corporations had to spend so much of their own resources and money to simply keep themselves in existence.
The downside of democracy is the people are idiots and will fall for anything. But I'd rather have that then a corporate oligarchy dictating policy with absolutely no regulations or democratic mechanisms.
A great book to read about Technocracy's effect of Chile is, "In the Name of Reason:
Technocrats and Politics in Chile." I know it's not in documentary form but I do think you will get more out of it this way.In Chile they called it "scientific government". On this thread we are calling it "resource based"

So if you lead a simple life under this system, it is required that you relegate all societal decisions to the educated and better informed. Who get's to make this decisions on what holds value and what does not? My beef is the fallacy that by moving to the system we will somehow leave behind all of our old problems and people simply wont seek power and influence.
