The 83rd Academy Awards kicked off the acting prizes with a predictable win for Melissa Leo as Best Supporting Actress for The Figther. Some pundits worried that Leo would turn Academy voters off for her decision to run her own ads in an effort to pull ahead from Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech) and the fast-moving buzz surrounding Hailee Steinfeld and True Grit.
