Emanuel is a regular at the parade, having appeared at the festivities almost every year while he served in Congress. He has been a relentless advocate of gay causes, including HIV/AIDS funding, civil unions and gay marriage. Joining him in the parade will be Governor Pat Quinn, recently who signed the Illinois civil union legislation, as Illinois became the sixth state to allow civil unions or their equivalent, giving same-sex couples the same state-level rights that come with marriage.
The parade usually draws around a half-million celebrants, but coming right on the heels of winning the long-sought right for same-sex couples to enter into civil unions and the historic passage of the New York bill allowing same sex marriage Friday night, this parade is expected to swell far beyond a half-million rainbow-clad spectators.
This piece includes a number of color photographs and two parade videos.

So great to see a politician that's not afraid to support the LGBT community. It's one thing to help pass legislation for gay marriage but it takes a true politician to go beyond the office and get out there and really show your support by leading this type of occasion. Way to go Rahm!!!

I'm sure it's a great time. I've never lived anywhere that I've been able to go to a gay pride parade. I've seen so many videos and it just looks like a whole lot of fun and just full of life. When I was little I lived just outside of Chicago in Ft. Sheridan. Now live in a small coastal town in Oregon. Nice place to live but definitely not to my political liking lol.

The only things I can really remember about Chicago, is the Ripleys Believe it or Not Museum, and Season tickets to the Chicago Bears games hehe. This was back when Walter Payton and William Perry (The Refrigerator) were playing, and of course the nice and cold winters lol
