Big Brother now goes after flash mobs by monitoring social networks. Next event to be stopped by the pigs in blue? A squirt gun fight in a public park, which is being closed to prevent any kids, teens or adults from having any fun in the sun.

There appears to be some confusion, and the article doesn't really go into much detail defining "flash mob", so here's what I think. The media has decided to label a recent phenomenon where dozens of teenagers decide to overload a particularly vulnerable place with the intent to rob/steal/harm as a "flash mob" (yes the same term which has been used for years to describe when people break into dance at Grand Central Terminal).

The A.V. Club article goes in to detail criticizing the media's usage of the term "flash mob", as I believe they should. I am not necessarily advocating Cleveland's new law, but it should be understood that the playful flash mobs are not the target here.
