Trailer for Ethos: the truth about the U.S. Government and its corrupt system

pjacobs51
Directed by filmmaker Pete McGrain and hosted by Academy Award nominated actor and activist Woody Harrelson.

Ethos: A Time for Change, explains how our country is controlled by some very wealthy families and not our chosen government. These families control the main pillars of our society which include; politics, corporations, banks and the media. The United States is framed as a democracy, suggesting that we the people govern our country and elect our officials, but the truth of that matter is that a democracy does not exist. Rather, the nation was designed to be a polyarchy, one that is ruled by many, those many being the key families. By structuring the country this way, it was premeditated that ultimately it would not matter who is in office because the people campaigning would be controlled and influenced by those controlling the money.

Those featured in the film include renowned historians such as Noam Chomsky (Manufacturing Dissent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media), Chalmers Johnson (Blowback: The Sorrows of Empire), Howard Zinn (A People’s History of the United States), the CEO’s of massive corporations such as Goodyear and Interface, as well as filmmaker Michael Moore.

    • --Aviso! Achtung! WARNING! You are entering a rant zone! If you are not properly prepared we cannot be held responsible for the condition of your footwear at time of departure.--

Ok I have waited to make comment on this video until I had the opportunity to actually watch it. If this presentation actually achieves it's goal of explaination and exploration we should each watch and raise our own questions on it's content. So here we go!

Politics, Politician, Democracy and the lack thereof! 30% of Americans voted in 2004!! We can't expect change without involvement. The idea of "I didn't vote for him so I can complain." needs a facalift to "I didn't vote against him so I can't complain." Failure of involvement IS the involvment of failure! One speaker raises the question of "Whats for sale." My view here is that we the people have been selling ourselves
for far too long. Instead of fighting to bring forth candidates we actually believe in we are selling ourselves to the only political choices we are offered. We are indeed a plurocracy, and as long as we stand by outdated requirements for someone to take office it will stay this way. We debate wether a candidate is "qualified" to act as our president based on political offices held instead of thier knowledge and wisdom on the issues facing our society, and this is simply counter-intuitive.

History tells us "change" has always come from the people. I can't even stomach responding to the concept of coorporations as "persons". There is such an apparent disparity between the interest of stockholders vs. "stakeholders". We have ordinance in nearly every community that legislates what we can have in our driveways and backyards because our neighbors may not enjoy the view, yet coorporate entities can decimate acreage, and clog our streams with refuse. How is this not a clear flag that rights are not equal here? This is indeed a problem as 50% of ALL men and 33% of ALL women now develop cancer within thier life time! When the cost of compliance with a law costs so much less then the legal consequences of simply ignoring it we are heading in a disasterous direction, and until stop allowing "crime pays" attitudes this will perpetuate. The first time I saw a now legendary photo depicting the Earth rising above a lunar horizon I knew nothing on our planet was infinite, NOTHING! The premise of a business needing to "grow" to be succesful has been a major thorn in my side since then. Nothing can continue to grow infinitly in a finite sphere. This is not just mathematic, nor is it simple logic, it is plain common sense that has been handed down thru human history in anecdotal stories and myths since the beginning of our history. Glutony eventually destroys itself, but not until the cost has been catastrophic on everything else in proximity.

Not all conspiracy theories are just theories. All I can say is watch and read the quotes shared here.

So here I am merely 20 minutes into the presentation of this documentary and I am emotionally drained already, and it hasn't even gotten to the good stuff yet! Is the hair standing on the back of your neck too? Is your pulse elevated? How many times have you clenched your fists in anger at the concepts presented so far? If you are not affected in the same fashion myself and countless others are by this point I a must voice my sympathy for your lack of humanity. If your reactions are similar to mine and your are thinking the deep thoughts of a subjugate citizen then I look forward to discussing these topics as we always have on this site.

--returns to watching, contemplating howmuch more of this must be shared for people to stop the silly dabates below and return to finding true answers.

Great points. The video was emotionally draining, brought out fear, anger, frustration, feeling of loss. The ending did not balance out all negativity, and the feeling of despair was not resolved. People that believe US government is working hard to protect American citizens will dismiss this video as an anti-American propaganda, or right wing conspiracy. Most of the world knows better then trusting their government. I am grateful to meet so many who will question, get involved, get informed.

    • I want to see this movie Ethos, that shows how our country is being controlled by some very wealthy families, and not our chosen government, the 1%.
I like Woody Harrelson, when is this movie coming out?
We have so much to be concerned about acid rain, global warming, oil spills, tropical deforestation, and nuclear catastrophes, make the newspaper headlines and overshadow local problems, making them seem insignificant. Now adding a police state to the mix of all of this is disastrous. The 1% is out of control, this problem is caused by some very wealthy families and not our chosen government? WTF maybe this is why they want to hire the military to police the US. Damn!
      It's time for real change.

You wish to know who is at the top of the all seeing eye?

I'll give you a hint: All of human history is really a history of banking and finance. Go back and study it from this angle and you will find the answer.

You might find the powerful elite families that are slightly lower on the Pyramid first. In the U.S. these specific families are given dominion and control of the U.S. and are assigned the task of pushing the agenda forward. But they are ultimately responsible to the top for their successes or failures in their sphere of influence. You will find the top. If you can connect dots you can find their current publication, which if you read between the lines, (and sometimes you don't even have to) you can figure out exactly where their agenda is going on even a year to year basis.

    • An interesting group of comments on the site say that:

"Adam Curtis already covered this exact material far more intelligently with:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T...";

(Not my comment please note, as I'm quite fond of Woody, but just to add a another original source to the discussion.)

The work referred to in the Wikipedia article is "The Century of Self" by Adam Curtis

    • I hope people do understand that these few family's and the rest of the wealthy don't give a damn about you and I, and in fact have profited by the deaths of millions throughout the last century. So why are we waiting? The world is really a small place and they can't hide forever, why should you care if these folks live or die. We had a saying back in my Army days "Kill them all, and let God sort it out" in fact they probably had something to do with that as well!
