I love playing this song to chicken hawks because it's an anti-war song that has both the Flag and Jesus in it. It really puts them in a tailspin.

I saw him do it during Bush 2's 2nd term. He did not play the melody. He sang the whole song with his middle finger extended after having some choice words for the Pres. This was at Wolf Trap which is about 20 miles from the White House. It was classic.

Both Tom Lehrer and Phil Ochs should be writing songs today. They would have a wealth of stuff to write about. I started listening to them both in 1968

I remember that day in December 1980. We left class en masse and lowered the flag to half staff. We then kept a 24 hour vigil to keep it that way.

Dec. 1980 I was ten, two months away from my 11th birthday. Thank you to get me straight on the date!

I remember 1971. My parents were newly divorced. Dad kept the house on the hill in a posh neighborhood, and mom got the kids and a cheap apartment on the edge of town... where vets were returning from Viet Nam, welcomed only by their friends and neighbors, bearing horrific scars and missing limbs and digits.

Your anger is misplaced. No need to tell me off. They are great songs and I hope you don't remove them. I remember that time as well. My uncle was a POW. As you and I are the same age, I was just informing some of the younger folks about the dates the various songs came out and to let them know that it didn't end with the 60s.

When I did it, I identified by date all of the songs posted in the thread that did not come out in the 60s. At that time there were 2.
