Where Were They Then? Vera Farmiga's Start in "Return To Paradise"
If you've seen movies like The Manchurian Candidate, The Departed, and 2009's horror-thriller Orphan, then you're already extremely familiar with Vera Farmiga. You just may not have known it. Only recently has she gained top-billing notoriety, thanks to scoring Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Academy Award nominations for her role as Alex Goran in last year's Up In The Air.
Watch the Rotten Tomatoes review for the movie:
However, even before starring opposite George Clooney, Farmiga worked with a number of film heavyweights. In over a decade in film, she's worked with director Martin Scorsese and shared screen time with Denzel Washington and Christopher Walken. She got her start on Broadway in 1996, moved into television, and then within a couple years appeared in her very first film alongside Vince Vaughn, Joaquin Phoenix, and Anne Heche in 1998's Return to Paradise.
Farmiga has a very small role as Kerrie, a minor character in a movie about two friends struggling to save another from an impending death sentence, but she's appeared in films ever since. After almost two decades of work, Farmiga is now being recognized as a leading lady. She's slated to star in four films between now and 2012, including Henry's Crime with Keanu Reeves and the sci-fi thriller Source Code with Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan.

She's proof that stardom and critical acclaim doesn't always happen overnight. Catch Return to Paradise on Current to see Vera Farmiga in action long before she became a major awards contender.
