Warwick Davis talks 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' Parts 1 & 2
When we last see Harry Potter in Part 1 of "The Deathly Hallows" (out on DVD April 15), he's just escaped imprisonment at Malfoy Manor, along with the goblin Griphook (played by Warwick Davis, who also plays Professor Filius Flitwick). Having Griphook on his side is going to pay off big time -- because what do the goblins control? That's right -- Gringotts Wizarding Bank. If Harry's going to continue his search for the Horcruxes, he's going to need to know how to break in -- and how to get around the dragon that guards it. Davis talks about why it's fun to play a goblin, and what's in store for the bank break-in scene in Part 2 (out in theaters July 15).
Q: You have a special feature on the DVD...
WD: I do?
Q: There's a spotlight on Griphook...
WD: Griphook, he's a great character, isn't he? What I sort of liked about him, after playing Professor Flitwick for so many years, Griphook has got so many more levels to him. He's devious, he's manipulative, you never really know if he's a goodie or a baddie. You should never trust a goblin anyway. So it was really nice to finish with that kind of character. That's nice to know [about the DVD], another reason to buy it.
Q: And Griphook has this great big scene coming up where he takes them to the vault...
WD: Yes, yes. But that's not out yet! But it was nice to be a part of the plot, if you like. Griphook, without him, he's needed as far as steering our central characters through on their journey. So yeah, lots of excitement and adventure there.
Q: And dragons?
WD: Oh, yeah, yeah. Dragons, and maybe there's a sword of Gryffindor lurking in there...
Q: And Horcruxes...
WD: I don't know, I don't know! [Laughs] It's safe to say we've faithfully recreated and made things even better, I hope. But it's all there.
Q: Are you jealous they got to ride a dragon and you didn't?
WD: I never get to ride anything! No creature. No. I suppose. But I did get to do some great wand action in the upcoming battle. Flitwick's had a wand but he's never used it in anger, and now he gets to!
