im an avid nu-rave listener. though as mentioned in this pod, what nu-rave delineates is kinda ambiguous, just as any other attempt at genre-defining is in this modern mashup landscape. but it kinda bugged me, the girl in this pod (who is quite a cutie) said that nu-rave is: "it's not about nihilism...the world is quite horrible...we just wanna make it better." and the dude in trash fashion precedes this by saying: "nu-rave is about being able to wake up in the morning and say im an idiot." my beef is that, ok, isn't 'nihilism' and undiscerning, unfocused and perfunctory hedonism essentially the same thing?

This is 'bricolage' at it's finest. Levi Strauss would be a happy man if he saw his media analysis in full working order
His thoughts on 'subculture' are especially interesting as many of his predictions and theories are apparent in the 'mix and match' culture that surrounds us today, From 'emo' to 'drum and bass' right back round to 'nu-rave' Strauss' and, more recently, Dick Hebdige's thoughts offer a stark and quite insightful look into the notion of 'counter-cultures. '
