Gina Rene: Femme MC speaks her Truth

Smashes
Gina Rene writes and sings her own songs, blending R&B and Pop melodies with the wit and lyricism of a true MC. She sees her music as a tool for her own personal growth, healing and self-discovery. • I'm glad that she's developed in so many ways including artistically but more than anything else I am glad that she has developed a sense of necessity for her daughter. I hope that feeling of necessity continues to grow and she never again allows herself and her daughter to be homeless on the premise of "not wanting to get a day job". This pod is a testament to the positive things Alexandria house has done not only for women, but more importantly, children.

    • I really liked this -- it started as a profile of an up-and-coming artist, and then became so much more. I like the way Ashley added on piece by piece the elements of Gina's story that make her rise and success all the more moving and positive. --She used to be homeless. --She reached out for help. --She found it. --She has a daughter. And my favorite part -- saying that she's made more money "from her spiritual center" than from anything else. That is truly inspiring. Plus I love her music, and her energy flips out of the screen into me. Wonderful ! When does this get on Current TV?

    • Truly compelling story made even more so by the video Ashley. You showed us so much insight to her as a person, mother and artist in such a short period of time - and I especially loved the images of her interacting with her daughter. This really gave a more realistic perspective of many struggling artists and what they go through in the interest of sharing their gifts. Amazing work! Congrats!

    • Great piece, I think it strikes a nerve in all of us in LA who are struggling with the balance of artistic endeavors vs financial responsibility. Grrr...just pay me for my art! Good job Gina and Ashley!

    • an inspiring story, beautifully presented, a wonderful message of struggle, hope, vision and incremental success, which is usually longer lasting than instant stardom or success. Keep on keeping on. Thanks Gina and Ashley for sharing with us.

    • I love how artists each have their own way to the center of the circle. I've enjoyed Gina's music before, so it was really meaningful to hear some of the deeper elements to her process.

    • Not sure where to start, but Gina's story is inspiring in just a 6+ minute clip! I'm on my way out the door for a BIG weekend trip centered around dreams and this gave me just the spiritual fuel I need to make the journey.

Thank you Gina. Thank you Ashley.

Stunning piece of work, inspiring life-force...
