    • In November 2000, my husband and I stood in a parking lot at 4:00 am to listen to Vice President Al Gore. He told us that if the sun came up the next morning and he was president, the birds would be singing, and things would be good. If the other guy won, it would be raining, we would stub our toes getting out of bed, etc. Though he was being funny, he was so very accurate. The world seems to be spinning out of control and much of it has to do with the policies of the Bush administration. We have written Mr. Gore twice. We have signed petitions. We have asked others to join the effort. Al Gore is the only person that can turn this thing around. Please, Mr. Gore, please answer the call. It is not about whether you are "in love with politics". This is about the fate of our nation. We love what our country once was and want it back. We believe you have the same passion for the Constitution. Please lead us, Mr. Gore. Please.

    • Dear Al:

In our ballot signature drive to get your name on the Democratic presidential primary ballot in Massachusetts, I ask folks the question: Would you like to have Al Gore on the ballot?

For the most part, there are two common and predictable kinds of responses: the first is the excited puppy reaction - "Ohmigod, is he really running?", and I practically have to peel the eager person off me to stop them from grabbing my clipboard and pen, before I instruct them how to sign carefully.

The other response has an element of frustration dipped in annoyance: "Well, it would be great but ... Oh, come ON, he SAID he’s not running! Leave him alone - he's doing great work as it is! Why force him back into that morass?"

Why indeed? We all know that politics has been toxic - never more so than in the last 7 years. And there’s no doubt that you, Sir, are doing great, great work as a private but global citizen.

Here are two reasons why: 1) There is no one besides yourself capable of wielding vast power who can offer the breadth of qualities necessary to lead us out of the shambles of the dark neo-con dream of tyranny, conquest, and domination. We need what you have - a quicksilver, open, brilliant mind which sees the big picture, asks the necessary questions, and takes the long view, decades of leadership experience, commitment to democratic principles and the Rule of Law, love of learning & teaching, integrity, moral force, initiative, courage, wisdom, humility, tenacity, vision, faith, electability, orientation to the future, self-sacrifice, noble patriotism, and humanitarian priorities - to usher us into a new era of American innovation and cooperation with others and with the planet itself. 2) The presidency alone can offer you the greatest platform, megaphone, pulpit, and classroom that you will ever have, to use yourself for the highest possible purposes, those of restoring our Constitution and democracy, and of changing the consciousness and direction of America and the world at large, to reach for a future which is sane, liveable, creative, and full of promise.

I repeat: there is no one who comes close to having your vision-powered skill sets to make these changes happen. And without the presidency, your continued influence upon America and the world AFTER January 20, 2009 remains tentative and at risk; someone else would be creating the syllabus for the 21st century.

It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it - lead us (kicking and screaming if necessary!) to save ourselves, save the country and the earth, that is. No one wakes up wanting to be Prometheus or Cassandra or Atlas or Moses, but there you have it. You are the smartest, most decent guy in the room! You deserve to set the agenda for the next 4, hopefully 8 years. Without you at the helm, it’s hard to imagine that America can ever fully recover from the hemorrhage of principles, alliances, human treasure, material resources, ideas and ideals. You are the best president we never had ... (yet)! So we, who already honor the enormity of your contribution to the world, beg you - step up, Al: we’ve never needed your leadership more!

I answer the doubters with as much faith as I can muster:

“If we build it, he will run”.

We toil in the vineyards of the growing nationwide (even worldwide) Draft Gore movement, and pray that you will.

    • I truly believe America and the World needs a leader like Al Gore. No one has tried to reach so many people for the sake of humanity. I am hoping he is playing a waiting game and will come forth to run for presidency. He can do many things outside of being Head of the State but in the same way, if he were to become President, he would be regarded as a world leader and be in the perfect position to be best heard, seen, and followed. Also, it had always been his dream to be President and now could be his time. The other candidates are worthy advocates but no one holds as many recognitions, awards, successful background (from his honor days at Harvard to him being VP). Aside from personal goals, Al Gore could be more successful than any president since FDR. I base this on his ability to draw audiences internationally even though he is not still a figure head of America. Granted, I would like for him to truly be in the spot light. For a while he had dropped back in from the American scene, then came out with "An Inconvenient Truth" and his book "An Assault on Reason" (both wonderful to watch/read - I encourage everyone to do so whether you like Al Gore or not). Now he is once again up in front of everyone. There is no reason he shouldn't run. He could not have planned the Nobel Peace Prize, so he should use that, along with everything else, to gain position in the polls. Alas, we await for the announcement of his candidacy. Until then, we must all keep our hopes up that someone as successful as him will still want to be President of the United States of America.

    • Mr. Gore I think I speak for the majority out there, Please Please run for President in 2008 you have my vote! Our country is in trouble, Financially, Morally, Environmentally and the future is looking pretty dim.

Under current leadership we are seeing failures in the housing market, economic growth is not what it should be, our children are not receiving proper educations and the values that Americans once held are going out the window through frustrations and feeling defeated by our own government.

Our climate is in crisis and you understand what needs to change in order to cope with and even head off disaster.

America needs you Mr. Gore and we have never needed you more than beginning 2008. We need a fresh start as a nation, one that is driven by strong values, For the People not against the people.

You want to see things turn around in America bring to us TRUE Leadership, encourage the good in people and see the US regain strength as the largest Free nation in the world.

No more senseless wars, no more bullying other countries, let us learn to re group as a nation and heal as a nation.

We feel tired, defeated and we need encouragement for the sake of our children, grand children and future genearations. We want to make a difference, we need a leader who will let us be part of the solutions.
