Once many years ago I had some conversations with Dolly Parton about doing a tv show. In some chit chat over lunch, I asked her who she wrote "I Will Always Love You" about, and she said, in a very classy way, that it was a "manager" that she had, early in her career, and that the song's meaning was very straightforward--parting was bittersweet but that she would always love him. She indicated that she was very young at the time and the "manager" was much more experienced. I later found out that the man she was talking about was the legendary Porter Waggoner. Even the name Porter Waggoner sounds legendary! One of the greats is gone, rest in peace. And how ironic that Dolly's song will make everyone think about him, forever.
